    Dollars and sense of scuba...

Agree with Brad, Got certified in Chicago, dove in Wisconsin anywhere from 1 to 3 hour drive one way. Still it was worth it. Now live in California and actually had a great dive with Otter last night after work and was home by 9:00. Puttting a price on hobbies is wrong, for a hobby all you...

Just bought some new gear from Scubatoys

I do have a problem with the local dive shops having to change sooooo much comparied to the internet places. Here is So Cal, I have the best of both worlds. Discount Divers (now SCUBA.COM) is 10 minutes from where I work. They will meet Leisure Pro Prices and have full factory warrenty, a...

    Transpac II and wing question

I dive with the Trans Pack II and the Rec Wings and love it. Never dove them with doubles. For diving in tropical waters I change the rec wings to the travel wings. With only 15 lbs lift the travel wings are too small in my opinion for dry suit diving. Check out the Dive Rite web page...

    Dry Suit Zipper Configuration

Hi all, I was at the Long Beach Scuba show this weekend. Talked to the Posiden rep about dry suits and the different configurations. Some of his comments were interesting and was wondering if they are true. Below are his obervations. 1) On self entry dry suits, the zippers don't last...

Caught between PADI and an Instructor

Would be interested to hear about the outcome of this. Interesting to see how PADI takes care of their customers. How can you check out a local instructor's status?

How to carry the camera during the dive?

I always use a coiled lanyard, with a stainless clip, no plastic. I use them for my video housing, my canister light, and my backup light for night diving. For the camera I always hold it in my hands, the clip is only a backup, or something to secure it if I need my hand. Also be careful...

    does anyone carry second spg

I dive with an hoseless computer and have an analog gauge tucked under my waist out of the way as a backup. I can still read it but is is out of the way and tight against by body. I have had the hoseless transmitter stop working at times. I like the hoseless gauge mounted on my wrist while...

Been wondering when these were going to come out..

I think for the price I will keep checking my wrist. Then again, an air integrated hoseless computer is in the $1000.00 range, so when you consider the WOW factor, it's not bad. Hope the Navy likes it, buys alot of them, and brings the price down for the rec divers. Would need to try it out...

    Swivel connectors...

I had a swivel and a longer hose to run the hose under my shoulder. Liked it, but I did have the swivel fail. The swivel I had has a screw holding the two halvs together. The screw got loose and when I turned on my tank, the "O" ring blew out. My buddy turned off the air and we put the "O"...

    Attention please

In Yap the dive master had a short piece of PVC with a couple of marbles inside with end caps on it. They could shake it like a rattle. If Fiji the dive masters had a piece of 1/8" stainless bar that thy used to point things out, they also used it to bang on their tank to get other divers...

    Missing Diver incident

From the Today show interview he said he was 300 to 400 feet away from the boat and it was foggy. I would think he could swim the 100 yards to get closer to the boat for a signal. If the current was that strong, what happen to the rest of the divers? What was the dive shop chartering the boat?

Newbie dropping the big bucks: critique the gear choice

First, I am sold on the Apollo Bio Fins. Been diving with them for several years now, since a friend let me try his. A fellow dive buddy just stopped by my desk. He had a pair of old paddle fins and we finally talked him into getting the bio fins. Well last night he tried them in the pool...

    Newbie...needs help with fins,mask,and snorkel

I like the OceanMaster with Q-Strap, It makes getting it off and on real eazy. I do alot of shore diving and usully swim out with my mask around my neck, so opening up the strap is a nice feature. On getting clear mask. With diving from the shore, if you drop the mask in the surf, and it's...

    Layering Wetsuit

Save the 3 mm for warm water vacation diving, and get a dry suit for Ohio. I started with a 6.5mm Mares semi dry and went to an Apollo 5.5 mm dry. Once you go dry, you'l never go back to a thick wet suit.

    Shark feeding

I agree with DocMartin. I was on a shark feed in Fiji a couple of years ago and enjoyed the experience. We are underwater tourists. My two cents is by being there we are altering the behavior of all the fish. The feed in Fiji had a trash can filled with fish parts. The dive master hand...

    Anything and everything about Palau!

Just got back from Palau and Yap. Went with seven friends. Had a great time, saw allot of mantas in YAP. Yap is worth spending time. Both the islands are very rural, if you don't dive, not much else to do. Dove the Big Blue Explorer in Palau and had a great time. Some of the guys are...

    Olympus C8080

I usually use PRICESCAN.COM to get a comparison on the prices. They provide a star rating on the shops and only by from places that are 4 or 5 (top rating). The 1 and 2 star rated shops seem to always have the better price, but if you want it, you need to order the package deal. I did athis...
