My wife is stationed at Foster. I work as a divemaster with an instructor out of Torii station. This is THE place to get certified, that's for sure. We have more students than we can handle.
Scott,
I used the D cell because thats all they had at the PX here on Okinawa. I was thinking of using the clips that Mag-lite has for the D cells to make the goodman handle. Thanks for the input on the cord and mounting, it has shed some light on what direction I want to go. I'm waiting...
I am building my first canister light following Padipro's instructions, with a little modifications on the lid (acrylic was too hard to work with). I am done with the light except for the cord length and mounting. I have a couple questions for everyone who has built a light.
1. How long did...
Was this a drift dive as well? If it wasn't, you should have been briefed on the rules of currents with a boat dive. You are supposed to swim into the current at the start of the dive so that you end up closer to the boat or even ahead of it. The rest of the divers may have known this rule...
Here on Okinawa I have seen some of the locals with SUVs and Vans use a custom fitted tarp. They use grommets and string the tarp up all the way around the cargo area like a curtain, but the curtain has a bottom that covers the floor as well. There is an extra flap in the back that flops over...
I heard of an instructor that was policed out of PADI here in Okinawa. I don't know if it was poor instruction or something else. Here is a link that may enlighten:

Thanks goes out to Waterdawg and his Goatdawg site for the link.
I had a friend that acted exactly like you have described. He was a careless, brand new diver that wasn't taught right or failed to listen when it was important. Had six dives under his belt and thought he knew it all. He dove out of his limits and training the day after he gained his...
Sombrero Reef, about a two miles off the east coast of Marathon Key. You can see it from the seven mile bridge, it is marked by an old radio tower. There are daily charters out there that are fairly reasonable. Awesome visibility and a great reef.
Best wishes to your Dad.
This is the way I try to describe to students about how equalizing feels: Try yawning with your mouth shut and breathe deeply through your nose, you should feel (or hear) a rush of air in you eardrums. Then at the end open your mouth and you can hear a pop or crackling. That is the best I can...
His name is Rich Ruth and I think he was kicked out of PADI and is now IDEA. There are all kinds of instructors and divemasters on Okinawa that can help you. A majority speak english and are PADI pros. Try visiting www.dive-okinawa.com for a good instructor who can arrange anything you would...
I was just wondering if anyone (and I'm sure you do) has an opinion about a high or low volume mask. Or does it even matter? If your going to exhale, then why not put some air in your mask. I have a Tusa M-14 which is high volume mask and I don't have any problems equalizing at all, granted a...
I agree with Jagfish about the seasnakes. I think they are really nearsighted, because I've seen them on more than one occasion, bump into rocks and coral as if they were blind. I also think it is one of those cases where they are more afraid of you than you are of them. Jagfish and I spooked...
