Tranquility Bay Resort, north Ambergris Caye, Belize

We spent a week at TBR in August, vowing to return. Honestly, Carlos and Isabelle were high on the list of reasons to return so I'll watch upcoming reviews here and on Trip Advisor with interest and attention. The summer rate for the room we had is up >26%. :-P

    Death in the Blue Hole?

Anyone heard anything about this? Really sad - I just read this thread on the Trip Advisor forum: Death at Blue Hole - Belize Cayes Forum - TripAdvisor

    Guanaja La Pura Videa

What a good sport you are to shift gears so quickly! Glad you had a good experience! We stayed at Bo's and at Graham's in 2008, ~week each (Bo's for my diving, Graham's for my husband's flyfishing) and enjoyed both. We'll head back to Guanaja sometime - thanks for posting!

Agreed - I wouldn't suggest flipflops but good hiking sandals or tennies would be fine.

Glover Atoll - Diver Opinions Wanted

It's a pretty amazing place; people seem to either love it or hate it. I think if you really read the website, search the web for reviews, and make an informed decision then your expectations in terms of amenities and service will be in line with reality and you'll have a blast. Our son-in-law...

Glover Atoll - Diver Opinions Wanted

I've stayed for a week each in 2003 and 2009 on NE Caye at Glover's Atoll Resort which is arguably the least resort-like place on the planet: no electricity or running water, no catering to. It's not for everyone but is paradise for us and the diving and snorkeling is truly amazing. My photos...

Any diving locations near Tela or La Ceiba, Honduras?

Nope - you really have to make it out to the islands. I haven't been to Cayo Cochinas but have enjoyed Utila, Roatán, and Guanaja - really different from each other.

    Belize Diving - Worth it?

Another vote for Glover's Atoll - pretty phenomenal, even the snorkeling, even from shore.

    Dive sites suggestions

If you can afford time on one of the atolls, do it. I've spent a week each on Glover's Atoll in 2003 and 2009 and the diving (and snorkeling from shore!) was phenomenal; we're talking about a return in 2011. We stayed at Glover's Atoll Resort which is paradise to us but basically camping in a...

General advice on travelling to Belize - insurance etc

I've been asked to pay a half or full deposit well in advance many times in my CA travels. If I'm worried, I buy trip insurance (I like DAN's add-ons, too).

Field Trial (After the No-See-Ums bite you...)

Good to know! So far the 2 things we've found that work wonders are Preparation H and Orajel gum-deadener dotted on the sand fly bites.

Honduras flight, san pedro, or la cieba?

Don't know how much time you have but a night at Omega Lodge and some greta jungle hiking, kayaking, or rafting, totally makes the SPS > La Ceiba trip worth it for us. Keep us posted!

    Roatan day trip

The Iguana Farm is a riot, though some of the caged animals made us sad. Punta Gorda is worth checking out - cultural presentations available sometimes. The hiking in the Carambola Reserve is wonderful - you can see across to Utila from the top on a clear day. Enjoy!

    Trip report Utila April 2-10

Thanks for taking the time to post this great report. I, too, love Alton's and that neighborhood. Our last great visit to Utila was in 2008 and we have Mexico this year (2x) and Guatemala/Belize again for 2011 - 2012 back to Utila, maybe??

    East End of Roatan?

I stayed at Mango Creek Lodge in 2006 - gorgeous place, great flyfishing which was the draw for us. I spent a day diving with Reef House Resort; their divemaster, David, was extraordinary and I thought the diving was pretty spectacular, too.

Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker and Glover´s Reef

Private messaged information sort of defeats the point of a forum, where we share our good deals and good ideas with others. If you're not comofrtable sharing where you're staying now, I hope you'll share after the trip so others can know, too. THANKS

    Belize vs. Honduras

PS Even though I'm in my 50's, we love both islands (in other words, Utila isn't only for young people), and check out Guanaja for the most amazing diving in Honduras (imo) if you want to get off the beaten track.

    Belize vs. Honduras

Have a great trip and be sure to tell us all about. As a side note, if you decide to head to the Bay Islands, Utila's the place for a really young, festive dive scene and is, in general, cheaper than Belize or Roatan. On Roatan there's more to do (hiking, nicer beaches, etc.) and the dive...

Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker and Glover´s Reef

Just a few additions to the above, though I realize I'm a little late. For budget, Caulker has far more options than Ambergris. There are lots of inexpensive options in Hopkins and we love that place - great cultural experience. The diving on the atolls is incredible. Problem is, most of the...
