    Exhibit or Aquarium Diver Specialty

As I said, I do not usually engage in ad hominem debates, but in this case I will make an exception... Nowhere did the original poster mention anything about "scientific diving". This is volunteer diving, and he was interested, as he wrote, in something to keep his volunteers. That is what I...

    Exhibit or Aquarium Diver Specialty

Oh, here is what I found on the Shedd Aquarium, Chicago, Illinois website about their volunteer dive programs: "Caribbean Reef Diver Our most popular program gives highly qualified divers the opportunity to hand-feed the animals in our Caribbean Reef exhibit while giving public...

    Exhibit or Aquarium Diver Specialty

You shouldn't be sorry; it is a sign of weakness. Just ask John Wayne. However the original poster asked a question that applied only to his organization, not to the entire world. When I have a chance, I will consult 29 CFR to see what there is that applies to divers. Nevertheless, I am...

Please, what "community standards" and what "government mandated standards"? Thank you. There is risk in every human activity; there is also this lawsuit-happy country we live in. If one is unwilling to take any risk, one should not dive, or drive, or live...

    Exhibit or Aquarium Diver Specialty

"As long as the course meets AAUS specification you'd be on the right path, a recreational vanity program called Certified Virginia Aquarium Diver or something like that solves nothing and creates even more liability, that would be truly foolish." Many organizations do this with great success...

    Exhibit or Aquarium Diver Specialty

There are two types of certification: External (eg. SSI) and Internal, where the organization sets the requirements and the training course. Devise a course, a good course, provide a certificate (eg. Certified Virginia Aquarium Diver), and make some logo t-shirts. This provides an incentive...

    Coolpix 5400 housing

Wanted to buy. Looking for a usable, functional, and working underwater housing for a Nikon Coolpix 5400 camera. I do not use the camera anymore, so I thought I would bring it diving with me. Thanks.

How do you get in shape for scuba

I bicycle ride to get in shape for diving. During the winter I set up a trainer stand and pedal for half an hour 5-6 times each week. During spring, summer and fall, I try to ride 75-100 miles each week.

    Eilat

I made it! Dove on the Israeli missle ship sunk in about 24 meters of water. Gained my SSI Master Diver certification. Prodive Dive Center is a great dive shop.

Diving in Eilat this weekend... At least that's the plan. Any recommendations for a dive shop? I emailed two, but haven't received answers. And visiting my newest grandson.

Dealing with over-enthusiastic parents and spectators - The Parent's Perspective

Oh, and one more tale... Daughter #4 failed her Jr. OW written test the first time. She complained bitterly about the instructors. After we spoke about it, she called up her eldest sister and complained to her-about me. Daughter #1 (see above post) stopped her in the middle of her rant. "OK, so...

Dealing with over-enthusiastic parents and spectators - The Parent's Perspective

Since teachers and instructors are not always correct, when there is a disagreement, I get involved. Have you ever had a issue with a college instructor? The Department head acts as the instructor's advocate, but who is the advocate for the student? Let me give you a couple of examples from...

Dealing with over-enthusiastic parents and spectators - The Parent's Perspective

I will add some closure to this topic. I haven't done my DiveCon yet. Instead, my last daughter (of 5) worked on her PADI Jr. OW during February and March. Laura did fine, and the instructor asked that my wife and I watch during the first class. She passed all the tests, and we went for her...

My sister sent this to me... I made it PC

An American tourist asks a local: "Why do Scuba divers always fall backwards off their boats?" To which the local replies: "If they fell forwards, they'd still be in the f*****g boat."

The SCUBA Police and the Vintage Diver

James Bond drove around in a 1930s blower Bentley. His golf clubs were pre-WWII. It is only in the movies that he has these weird gadgets. You know about the little UW breathing device in the movie "Thunderball"? Someone at the Royal Navy saw the movie, liked the device, and called the...

The SCUBA Police and the Vintage Diver

Funniest thread I have read here. Took me a couple of hours, before and after work. Not that OI am a slow reader, but there were too many laughing fits. Let me tell you all about the time the pimply-faced kid behind the LSD counter yelled at me because I wanted a 2-gauge console for my...

    Pompano Beach - Force E

Boca uses Parrot Island, South Florida, The Diversity, and a few others. I have dived with each of these named three; all are great, very customer-oriented. Go in to one of their three stores, tell the manager what you want to dive, and (s)he will find you a match. Full disclosure...
