Aggressor II to Galapagos - DO NOT GO ON IT.

I was on the GAII in August with Solon and we were very happy, it was a fantastic trip. Fortunately, everyone on our trip was an experienced diver who could do a back roll and no hand holding was required during the dives. Remember the DM is responsible for the entire group in his panga not for...

Galapagos vs. Cocos??? Anyone done both???

We saw mola mola last August in the South at Punte Vicente Roca but it is hard to get close to them. Ralph

    Traveling with Equipment!

Just for fun I'm reprinting a post I made in Dec 2000 (pre 9/11) on a dfferent board. TSA regulation specify that regulators are ok to carry on and I've never had a problem since that time. Ralph

Custom wetsuit - Boggled by neoprene types sold by different custom wetsuit companies

Well in our case they were late in finishing the suit, appologized, and offer to rush it to my wife. Then they charged her ~$50 for overnight shipping. That combined with the strange hard sell for their products; that they tried to convince me that my Deep Thought G231 suit wasn't really G231...

Custom wetsuit - Boggled by neoprene types sold by different custom wetsuit companies

I agree, my G231 suit compresses like any other and the neoprrene is heavier and stiffer than most. I don't trust the Wetwear test because I have compared swatches of glomax and G231 at depth and saw no significant differance in thickness. The main advantage is that Rubatex holds up much better...

    Doc's pro-ear plugs?

I've tried them and found equalizing was no easier. Plus with a cold water hood on, the hood's pressure on the plugs made my ears hurt. I recommend you save your money. Ralph

Pain on the sides of my head

I sometimes get sinus blocks when freediving, often at the worst times. Don't push it, you'll only make the trama worse and increase the healing time. Decongestants might help, but if not then time will. You might have a sinus infection, I've gotten them from kajak rolling in fresh water...

Comparative look at live-aboard vs island hopping diving in the Galapagos

Don't be too jealous, 4 of us tried to get close with mask, fins, and snorkel to the Orcas in the panga with little success. We were close enough to jump in once but only the first diver managed to see them underwater and maybe get one photo. I didn’t see them underwater but at least I can say I...

Comparative look at live-aboard vs island hopping diving in the Galapagos

This is a great overview, but I'll comment on one thing. Our 12 day August trip had requested 1 day at Wolf and 5 days at Darwin, but the Park allowed us only 3 Darwin days. We spent the first day at Wolf with good but not Darwin level diving. Then 3 fantastic days diving at Darwin before...

    Crystal River Operator?

You have to try to read more carefully. I DID NOT say Bird's is only good first dive of the day and not on Saturdays. The swimming at Crystal River regardless of operator is only really good 1st dive of the day, BEFORE THE CROWDS SHOW UP when the viz drops and most manatees leave, and Saturday's...

    Crystal River Operator?

Agree with Bird's. Only do the first trip of the day and avoid Saturdays. Ralph

    Palau liveaboards?

We did Ocean Hunter III first week of December last year and had a great time, I can highly recommend that boat. It was the first time my wife liked the food on a liveaboard and the diving was fantastic. I did 30 dives during the 7 day trip. Be careful with dive travel agents, as long as you...

    Photos from the Galapagos

I was on a 12-day diving trip in the Galapagos Islands in August on the Aggressor II. The trip was fantastic, exceeding everyone’s expectations. With three days each at Wolf and Darwin we had more whale sharks than we bothered to count, hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, silky sharks, sea lions...

    Palau Aggressor?

We did the Ocean Hunter III last December and that is an excellent liveaboard with great food. I did 30 dives during the 7 day trip and the Palau reefs and wrecks were excellent. With the weak economy the number of divers are down, which will work in your favor. A few divers did not do the...

Diver Dies in the Galapagos on Peter Hughes boat

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Since no one else has answered, I can give you general information about diving at Darwin’s Arch. I just returned from my second trip there in August and have 22 dives at the arch. There is really one basic dive site, the pangas drop the divers in front...
