    Dive Haven Quarry, White, Ga

I am thinking of diving at Whitestone (Dive Haven) this Sunday 7/15/12. Any body want to buddy? I would be up for Lock-Low Minn or Pelham too, if I knew I had a buddy. I am in Tucker (NE Atlanta area) and could meet anywhere if someone wanted to drive up together. Cheers, Thomjinx

GoPro Hero2 battery life with LCD back?

Thanks fdog, and everyone who responded. Now I know that I can leave the LCD on for most of an average dive if I need to. I always carry extra batteries. And like jcclink, I will only buy chargers that are 100-240 volts. I live in the US, but much of my diving is in Southeast Asia. I...

GoPro Hero2 battery life with LCD back?

Thanks, Wolvan. That is exactly what I was trying to find out. That makes me think that even if I use the LCD back, I can get one dive on a charge. I can then switch batteries between dives. Have you been happy with your Hero 2 ?

GoPro Hero2 battery life with LCD back?

Thanks for your reply. I don't have the Hero2 yet, so I don't know what "normal' battery life is, let alone half. Will it last an hour? 30 min? 20 min? Is it easy to turn the LCD on and off when underwater? Thanks again! Thomjinx

GoPro Hero2 battery life with LCD back?

Hello, I am considering purchasing a GoPro Hero2 setup for my upcoming trip to Thailand. Do any of the Hero users here use the video back and if so, how is the battery life with that on? Thanks! Thomjinx

    Diving in south Thailand expensive?

Another vote for New Way here! Most of the dive operators on KT are good for teaching new divers, but many of them (not all) seem less interested in catering to experienced divers. Everyone at New Way, from the owner to the Divemasters (especially Blue) were great and I will be diving with...

    backplate in carbon fiber?

I am another very happy user of Deep Sea Supply's Kydex backplate. With a 17 lb wing and a hog harness it is very light and streamlined. Because the whole rig is slightly negative, it also requires less lead than most BCDs. And as far as the appearance (of CF) goes, who even sees it when you...

    Webbed Gloves

I have a pair of the Darkfin gloves I bought for freediving and snorkeling and I love them! Great dexterity and very well-made. Mine fit like I grew them. Quick response and support from the company too. I have no affiliation with Darkfin. -Thomjinx

From Denpasar to Tulamben, Mar.24, Amed-Car share?

Thanks for the response. That is a good price. At the moment it looks like we may be staying in Thailand longer, but I will definitely contact you if we come to Bali. Terima kasih banyak, Thomjinx

From Denpasar to Tulamben, Mar.24, Amed-Car share?

My wife and I will be arriving Denpasar airport in Bali on March 24 at around 2:00 pm. We will be going to either Tulamben or Amed. The car fare for this trip is US$45 one-way. The price is per car, not per person. The car can take 4 people. Wondering if another diver or two is going that...

    Scuba-hookah combo

Gearing up/down in the water and a smaller tank are the safest, most practical solutions, IMHO. I have a dive buddy in the Philippines who weighs about 90 lbs or less and is an above-the-knee amputee. She addresses her situation by donning and doffing her gear in the water. On a boat dive...

    Waterproof Wetsuits

I have one of their 3 mil suits and I love it. Well designed, and as warm as the 5 mil I had been using. I would certainly buy another. -Thomjinx

    Underwater Streamline

FWIW, I switched from a jacket style BCD to a DSS BP/W with a small 17 lb lift travel wing and noticed a significant decrease in drag. I think tapering the trailing edge of a tank would only make a significant difference in drag at speeds that are faster than you could swim anyway. -Thomjinx

    One Cam Band or Two

I have one of the Apollo bands and love it. I would be interested in knowing more about your modifications. -Thomjinx

    Nitrox/Titanium

Speaking for myself, my Titanium regulator is worth it for the reason pointed out by "fnfalman"...less weight. Many of my favorite places to dive are in Southeast Asia. Some of the smaller domestic flights I take there have a baggage weight limit of 15 kilos! So saving a couple of pounds...

How many backpacker/budget divers are onboard?

I consider myself more of a "Flashpacker" That is a backpacker who is willing to pay a little bit more for a nicer bungalow. Haha. Koh Tao, Thailand is a favorite of mine. As well as many other places in Thailand. Lodging under $10 a night. Dives less than $15 if you book...

So what do we think of Philippine dive shops?

I would love to see that! Haha! I can just imagine him calling this in on his radio. What would he call it? Haha. -Thomjinx

    Diving Sticks

A piece of (3/8" or so) aluminum rod stock works well, won't rust and is light.

So what do we think of Philippine dive shops?

I am an American who has dived a lot in the Philippines and in Thailand. One thing I have noticed outside of 'Western countries" like the UK and US is that in most of the world you are still considered to be responsible for yourself. If you buy a cup of hot coffee and spill it on yourself...
