Indonesia resort in August for snorkelers

I have not been to Alami Alor or Komodo so can't speak to them. Wakatobi is awesome in terms of client service. The boat rides tend to be 15 minutes or less and the sites are protected although there will likely be some chop during the rides.

Indonesia resort in August for snorkelers

We were there 25AUG - 8SEP. The wind decreased over that time and the visibility went up. This is fairly typical. Earlier on the wind kept us from going east from the resort due to chop but there were still many sites accessible. It was never particularly choppy at the house reef and there were...

Indonesia resort in August for snorkelers

We have just returned from Wakatobi. We are divers but on every boat there were snorkelers with their own guide. There were no dive sites which were unsuitable for snorkelers and they came back on the boat raving about what they saw. If some site was unsuitable for snorkeling due to current, the...

    Cable connector o rings

Thank you. I was also able to source an actual Cobalt hose repair kit.

    Cable connector o rings

The small o rings inside the hose connector to the Cobalt have gone. Fortunately I long purchased a complete spare house, but would like to get the required o rings so that I can still have a spare. Is there a source for them? These are the ones just under the central pin in the connector. Thanks!

    Cobalt 2 firmware update failure

Thank you for the prompt reply!

    Cobalt 2 firmware update failure

I tried on another Mac with identical results. I noticed that the file in Bootloader is titled FFAILED.TXT and is length 0 bytes after the attempted update. Basically Bootloader never really ejects and the firmware update never happens leaving the Cobalt 2 in the dead state. Rebooting by hold...

    Cobalt 2 firmware update failure

Ron @RonR - there is an issue with updating to either 2.5 or the trial 2.6 firmware from 2.4. I charged the Cobalt 2 from the wall to 100%. Plugged it in and MacDive recognized it. Downloaded the firmware updates (tried 2.5 and then 2.6 when the following failure occurred. It reoccurred for...

    Just landed in Bonaire

Just returned from two weeks in Bonaire and here are some of my experiences. Of course, things are changing rapidly. 1) We flew Washington National - Miami - Bonaire on American. 2) The website requirements for entering Bonaire are ambiguous but an email from the Bonaire public health...

Any thoughts or insight as to when Bonaire may reopen?

American Airlines tentatively has a Saturday to/from scheduled starting August 1st.

    Wakatobi Pelagian RIBs and ladders

We've done the Pelagian twice - including last year at 69 years of age and have reservations for next year at 71. I completely agree - the staff will do whatever needs doing for you to have a fantastic trip. They turned the Pelagian such that there was no surge when climbing into or out of the RIBs.

    Anyone that flew Divi-Divi recently?

We flew Divi in June 2018 (and several times before that). They weigh your total luggage at the check in desk and charge you for over weight (usually). We kept our rollaboards with us and handed them over when we went to board the plane at which point they were placed in the luggage...

    Shoutout to Sea Saba

Given that we went in May I can confirm that this is complete nonsense.

    Shoutout to Sea Saba

We thought it was in good shape. Everything had recently greened up; previously apparently all leaves had been stripped. The Elfin Rain Forest was in reasonable shape, i.e., as it has been recently not what it was before the hurricane years ago that devastated it. Man O'War Shoals was awesome...

    Shoutout to Sea Saba

We really enjoyed the hiking. In the past, climbing the stairs to Mt. Scenery was all we had done but more hiking in the rain forest was always of interest - just not enough to come before diving. We did 4 longish hikes. They are basically up and down through rain forest. In places they've...

    Shoutout to Sea Saba

We signed up with Sea Saba and Queen’s Gardens for our fifth dive trip to Saba. And that’s when things went weird. We paid the package cost. And then the trip was postponed four times (two for medical and two for hurricanes). To be clear Sea Saba and Queen’s Gardens were well within their rights...

    Olympus EM flash unit failure...again!

I was on a liveaboard when another photographer had a complete flash failure. So on my return I bought a spare. When checking a year later, one of the two was dead so I bought another spare. Then I read this thread and bought the Nauticam LED trigger. Be careful out there!

Saba - Saba Deep Dive, Saba Divers, or Sea Saba

I doubt that anyone on ScubaBoard admits to being okay with a cattle boat. We certainly are not. We like diving at our own pace and I am a photographer. Poking around and finding out what we can, we decided to go with Sea Saba. When we last dove with Saba Deep in 2010, they were also...
