    Habitat Closing?

Dove there about a month after it opened after a two week work stint in Venezuela. Jump flight from Caracas. Cabbie couldn't find the place it was so new. Had a blast. Sad business, hope they reopen.

    More mundane critter

LOL You know zee French, they are veerrry snobby. Actually it has been reported, but only in the laboratory and by mixing gametes, not natural mating. Probably the grays are too drab for the flashy French. :cool2:

    More mundane critter

Grays and French angels belong to a different genus, Pomocanthus. They are more closely related to Rock Beauties than either Blues or Queens (which in are in Holocanthus)

FISH ID Help (silversides sp?) Please - San Juan, PR

I don't know. The dorsal fins don't look right for silversides. Look more like some kind of herring. The #4 are maybe dusky cardinalfish based on the depth and the presence of the indistinct blotch/bar on the peduncle.

Environmental pros and cons of artificial reefing

It's an eyeopening article and thanks, but a lot of ships are scrapped here in the States and in Europe so I don't know how relevant it is for the fate of many vessels. Given the enormous energy and carbon production of producing steel, recycling is still a better fate for a vessel than dumping...

Environmental pros and cons of artificial reefing

I'm generally against them. We are better off energy wise recycling the metal (steel or aluminum) than sinking it and having it irreversibly lost. Other than diving, I don't see much utility for them. As far as enhancing fishing opportunities (if we really feel we need to do that) there are...

    Silt Fleas?

Sounds like an amphipod of some sort. Size is right and habitat. Probably suborder Gammaridea, but there are thousands of species.

    First oxygen-free animals found!

I saw this article as well. It is very interesting, but inaccurate. There are several groups of animals that live and reproduce anaerobically, in the protozoa, the trichomonads and the parabasalids. as well as a variety of more complex species in the nematodes, trematodes, cestodes, and even...

    Prilosec and diving?

Heart burn is pretty common in divers in my personal experience, but maybe that's just a fluke. Like Inventor, I have acid reflux. I've taken Prilosec, Nexium and now take prescription Acifex for many years with no effect on my diving. Since these drugs lower your stomach acidity, they...
