The all-inclusive tipping note -- Boats, DMs & Instructors

I can see that for someone who stiffs after getting extra treatment, but for someone who brings his own gear, sets it up alone, dives in and reboards with no help, etc, why would you say that? What's to pay for? Something for nothing? Isn't that the concept behind welfare?

The all-inclusive tipping note -- Boats, DMs & Instructors

The tanks and weights may be included in the price or they may not. The boat ride and basic dive information should be included in the price. Agreed, with the exception of jobs like waiters, etc. where the employee is paid less then minimum wage in recognition of tipping income. And, no...

The all-inclusive tipping note -- Boats, DMs & Instructors

I wouldn't because there's normally no optional part of takeout. In a sit-down restaurant, you're buying the product and tipping for the additional service given, such as prompt attention, bringing extra items, and keeping glasses full. You're paying for the value added. In a takeaway...

Take your seats and hang on, folks! The Manic-Depressive Roller Coaster is about to leave the station!

    Tipping

I've seen it on California liveaboards. Then there's Australia, where significant tipping is rare. I don't recall anyone tipping on either of two liveaboards there.

    Tipping

Teachers get tips? If you have a good rationale why I should either pay for optional services I don't use or pay twice for the same service, I'd like to hear it.

    Stop the Madness!!

No problem, Doug. BTW, a lot of those discussions veer off because quite a few of us use bp/wings for recreational diving, so it's considered fair game. Good luck with your future diving!

    Stop the Madness!!

Granted, but when someone posts: ....you can see how we could "misunderstand", especially about the caves. ;)

    Stop the Madness!!

Yeah, I can feel your pain too. I mean, why would you want anyone to warn you that a jacket BC may not really be appropriate for the cave and wreck diving you have in mind... The quality of trolling here has really gone down of late.

Sure, that's how I bought backplate and wings...from authorized dealers, no less.

The ACB pockets are ridiculously expensive, but IME the trim weight pouches are completely unnecessary. I used to think I needed trim weights, but I have since learned differently and haven't used them in several years. If you're looking to save money over the ACBs, a P-weight installed in...

You haven't been paying attention. My attitude is "If it's a jacket, it's most likely crap." :D I do prefer a certain system, but have I mentioned it here? Noooo.... If people recommending backplates really aggravates you so much, maybe you should do what you claimed you already do and...

    Tipping

Leaving the choice of site up to my group or myself, helping me reboard, lending a hand at other times, finding loaner gear if a hose bursts, etc. Others appreciate help setting up their gear (or even having it done for them), but that's not something I need or want. Normally, yes. I tip for...

 Hold on... I thought you said that: So, even though you skip the posts, they still drive you nuts? Poor thing...it must be very frustrating to see others constantly posting opinions you don't approve of. I mean, how dare they! :( Shouldn't you be at a book-burning or something?

    Tipping

Take it up with the operators who recommend that amount. If they're happy with the quality of the crew and there isn't excessive turnover, then it would tend to mean that the level of tipping is satisfactory, no? They certainly do; we can agree on that. But compensation for most of what you...

I'll probably regret asking this... but what's a "Zellet"?

    question to dir guys

The reason I asked was a recent V-planner profile called for only 1 min of deco at 10'. That and your comment led me to wonder if DecoPlanner/DPlan, as a GUE product, deviated from that and would always call for the three minimum stops you mentioned.

    question to dir guys

Just curious: does DecoPlanner reflect this? Or include deep stops?

The Great local dive shop vs. online debate

My thoughts exactly. The relevant question isn't "Is x% a fair markup?", but rather "Am I willing to pay $X.XX, or can I find it cheaper elsewhere?"
