Well, looks like I'm done diving.

Well, after more than 300 dives, it happened. I got the bends. 7 hours in a hyperbaric chamber and a day and a half later and I was feeling mostly OK. The tingling had gone from my fingers and toes and, a week after the incident, the nausea had mostly gone. Months later, I had another follow-up...

    Moalboal or Malapascua ?

Dude! Thresher sharks. Only place in the world I that I know that you can swim with them. Thresher sharks! Gotta do Malapascua. Oh, and they have mandarin fish, mobula rays, nudies, and bulldozer shrimp. And, did I mention the thresher sharks?

    Truk, Palau, or PNG?

Been to Palau and PNG -- PNG wins by a mile. In addition to the intriguing culture, PNG has big fish, teeny tiny fish, colorful fish -- pretty much anything you want. I won't go back to Palau but, finances willing, I'll be back to PNG.

    Scopace discontinued - WTF?

It was a pharmacy in Australia. The UK ones won't ship overseas (at least the couple we tried, didn't).

    Scopace discontinued - WTF?

Ordered Kwells, got it, and took it on a rough plane ride through a storm. It worked well but could have worked a _little_ better. The package read, 'take 1 or 2' 30mg pills. Since my prescription was for 40mg, I only took 1; next time, I'll take 1.5 and that should be great. This is a life...

    Scopace discontinued - WTF?

So, DocVikingo, In the other thread, you responded to the statement that "these pills [I assume Scopace and Kwells] do roughly the same job." is "arguably is incorrect". What did you mean by that? My (limited) understanding is that they were chemically the same except for dosage.

    Scopace discontinued - WTF?

Thanks, all. I saw in another thread that Kwells, an over-the-counter medicine in Australia, has the same active ingredient as Scopace. A single pill seems to be 3/4 of the standard dosage of Scopace. I haven't ordered any but others on this board have. Hopefully, this works out to be a...

    Scopace discontinued - WTF?

I called two pharmacies, today, and got the same, sad, news from both that scopace has been discontinued. That's horrible for me. The only thing worse would be if scopolamine patches were discontinued as well. Does anyone know why this happened?

Need some good tricks for dealing with sea sickness.

Scopolamine and its cousin Scopace are about as close to 42 as I've gotten. I do still need to keep track of the other stuff but, together, they allow me to keep getting wet. +bowlofetunias: You're absolutely right -- getting in the water _does_ work wonders -- it _almost_ always solves my...

    DUI TLS350 w/undergarments and accessories

Hi Jershon, Is that $600 offer for the drysuit alone, the suit plus the undergarment, or the whole lot? Thanks!

    DUI TLS350 w/undergarments and accessories

The drysuit is still for sale but, unfortunately, DUI puts their 'L' at about 5'9". I'm thinking the suit would be a bit small on you. Looks like you'd be a better fit for an LT or an XL.

    Fiji or Tahiti?

Been to Tahiti and Fiji -- Fiji is the place. I like both Beqa and the Bligh waters; the Bligh waters is, in general, bigger animals and more difficult diving than Beqa. Beqa is my favorite of the two, though. Beqa Lagoon Resort has tons of bulldozer shrimp on the house reef, great nudis, and...

How many countries have you been to?

45 (46 if you count Antarctica). @vladimir: It's hard not to count. Never wanted to just go checking boxes but, after a while, you get curious. Doesn't really matter -- whatever gives you pleasure without hurting others is valid. Counting hurts nobody. @mathauck0814: Wow! @ocdiver1...

    Selling ALL my gear!

Hmmm. My wife talked me into learning to dive (and into buying a sports car -- in neither case did she have to do _too_ much talking). I guess what one gives up varies. :)

Cant believe this was a DCS hit but ??

Have him go to a diving doctor (you can get a referral from the Diver's Alert Network) and get tested for a PFO. This is a pretty common heart condition that seems to be responsible for many undeserved DCS hits. It's treatable with surgery. I have a friend that got permanently disabled by a...

    Beqa Lagoon under new management

Been to both. I'm a big fan of the South Pacific and their fish so, for that alone, I preferred Beqa to Little Cayman. The food was better at Beqa but I realize that their chef has changed so that comparison may no longer apply. Both places had wonderful hammocks. Beqa has a great house...
