Vyper Air & data transfer cable: expected behaviour

Well, after 30 dives in 10 days, downloading after each dive using two different cables alternately and having rinsed the dive computer with fresh water religiously, I conclude that the cable design is just a bit of a kludge. Sometimes it is detected, sometimes it isn't. Suunto support wasn't...

Vyper Air & data transfer cable: expected behaviour

I'm pretty sure my Vyper Air doesn't have a menu option to enter data transfer mode. It detects the presence of the cable automatically. And yes, I have RTFM cover to cover :p

Vyper Air & data transfer cable: expected behaviour

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm off to the Maldives on sunday and will report the results.

Vyper Air & data transfer cable: expected behaviour

Since it works fine at home I figure the cable and connections aren't at fault. Hendrik@Suunto, are you still around?

Vyper Air & data transfer cable: expected behaviour

On two consecutive liveaboard trips my Vyper failed to automatically detect the presence of the cable and enter data transfer mode. Very frustrating if you urgently want to review what happened decowise on the last dive. Once home: no such issues, everything downloads just fine. Same laptop...

What dive suit for Daedalus, Elphinstone, & the Brothers in mid-April?

The problem is the cold breeze on the deck after the dive. Nothing wrong with a dry suit. ;-)

Guidance for a dive trip to Sharm El Sheik

Camel is smack bang in the middle of town. Sharm is like Vegas on the Red Sea shore. Shops, restaurants, bars, drugstores and indeed cash machines are everywhere. The food is good in most places and certainly around Camel. I recall Camel had a very nice lunch buffet. Don't drink the tap water...

    Salem Express

Beautifully said, FinnMom. I dived the Salem Express many moons ago before the hatches were opened. Even then you could see nature returning as tufts of sponges and coral settled in neat rows along the rivets and welds of the hull plates. The inside was a different matter of course. Dark...

Dive operator recommendation for Port Sudan (non-liveaboard)

A few years ago a Dutchman tried to replicate in Sudan the formula of places like Marsa Shagra in the early days. Basic accomodation, tents and zodiac dives. It didn't last.

Dahab worth the cheap flight ticket?

Hah. Old-timers tell me Dahab used to be some kind of hippie enclave. But things have moved on since the eighties. And really, there are no authentic non-touristy places in Sinai anyway. Nor anywhere else in Egypt, come to think of it. Don't let the relative scarceness of macrofauna get you...

Dahab worth the cheap flight ticket?

Ashantiashanti, Almost all diving in Dahab is from shore, though there are a few day boats. Usually you are bussed to the dive site, and there's at least one site that is only accessible by camel :-) The diving is great, but if you go to Dahab to see big stuff you are likely to be...

Where to go on from Dahab?

There is no shore diving in Sudan, so you would have to do a liveaboard out of Port Ghalib (Egypt) or fly from Cairo to Port Sudan (only one flight a week) to board a liveaboard there. Port Sudan is the hairy unwashed ars3 crack of Africa but once you're on board and away from the coast the...

Sudan liveaboard december VS Maldives land-based?

I have loads of dive experience -both land-based and liveaboard- in the Red Sea including Sudan on Don Questo, and have recently been on three multiweek liveaboards in the Maldives central atolls. I would echo everything supergaijin said, especially the bit about liveaboards beating resort...

    Sharm in February?

Practically all dive gear is imported from outside Egypt. Figure it out. How can it be cheaper than buying at home, especially from an online shop that doesn't need to maintain a bricks & mortar presence?

    Need political uprising updates/Egypt

I believe Asser is in Caïro. The BBC reports that Egyptians are now resorting to fax machines and dialup modems, but our Red Sea Shadow is with Noor, the only internet access provider that was allowed to continue operations because it carries data for vital institutions such as the stock...

Sharm El Sheikh Shark Attack - rumour control

You need to stop worrying. The chances of even seeing a shark in the distance are vanishingly small there.
