$50,000 federal grant funds PSD training and equipment

I have been tasked to look into grants for my public safety dive team! Going over the SAFER grant tutorial, it looks like public safety dive and rescue teams are "ineligible". Bill

    American Dream Aug. 12

I will be down in Florida with MissD that weekend. Sounds like we are in (on the diving) as well! I personally am up for anything, but prefer hitting some wrecks and reefs. I guess you could say both!! :D Definitely better than Misery diving!

    Diving in a rain storm?

I did my AOW dives in the rain in May down at Beaver Lake, AR. It wasn't my first choice, as sun would've been great, but oh well. :14:

    Diving in a rain storm?

I have dived in Table Rock Lake and Beaver Lake when it was raining and didn't have any problems! Just figured since I was going to be wet anyway, why not just dive in and have some fun! Yes, lightning is a huge concern, but diving when it is only raining, shouldn't be a big problem...

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

I was in the Bahamas a few weeks ago and the divemaster and boat captain (liveaboard) told us that someone a few weeks prior to us, got bent, due in part to being dehydrated. Hence we always had a jug of water and a jug of gatorade.

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

Each level is an increased level of conservatism in the dive profile. What he was telling me was to see what effect an increase from L1 to L2 to L3 to L4 to L5 had on each subsequent dive, attempting the same dive profile. From what I have learned, and of course reading the manual (RTFM)...

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

This is completely another thread, but what you are saying is that you condone drinking and diving, just moderately and that you should assess your body before doing so if you have been drinking. NO! From DAN http://diversalertnetwork.org/medical/articles/article.asp?articleid=14 Be well...

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

Thanks for the information. I was thinking along those lines as well. I will attempt this when in Florida next month.

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

Interesting post Simon! I was on a multi-dive, liveaboard experience a few weeks ago in the Bahamas and used L0 the whole time! This was the first time I had really put the computer to the test, although I had made several dives around here. I was really glad I had the quick-disconnect to...

    Microbubbles (RGBM) & Uwatec Computers

I have the Smart Com and too am trying to better understand the L0-L5 settings. Up until now, I have used the L0 setting and have had success, which is good. What would L1 do? I know L5 is the most conservative setting and have read and reread the manual and for the most part understand it...

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

Before anyone else sees your question and bites your head off, I thought I would be a nice guy and ask, why are you using a computer if you are a beginning diver? Yes, computers are good, and I use one, but with probably less than 5 total dives, I would suggest maybe getting used to diving...

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

If I drank heavily the night before and didn't feel good, it wouldn't matter what level I set the computer to! I just wouldn't dive at all. But then that is another thread. Better be safe than sorry, and the water will always be there.

Why would that be? Do you work for Oceanic? You know, both SP and Oceanic make excellent products.

Uwatec Smart COM question - microbubbles and deco

I use this computer currently and too am curious! I have used it in the past with L0 set, but after reading the documentation, I thought maybe I should set it to L1. I would like to have more information in my safety stops.

    just finished Rescue Diver!

I know what you mean by diving around "here". I am planning on Rescue Diver next year and will probably be doing the dives either at Table Rock Lake, MO or Beaver Lake, AR. I mentioned this to my instructor on my last trip, and he was more than willing to do the checkout dives in the Bahamas!!

No Fly Time Calculation No computer

I was told by an instructor on my last trip, 18 hours, but I normally go with the 24 hour rule - 24 hours after my last dive, and I think my computer has that same rule, although I haven't found documentation to support that (UWATEC SmartCom). I would much rather be safe, than sorry!

    Dumb and Dumber and Dumberer

I had a similar experience last week during a night dive. While getting my gear on, the divemaster alerted me to the fact that the dinghy was tied to the boat and to be aware of the rope when leaving the boat. I was so concerned about that, that when I finally walked off the boat, I forgot to...
