    Boat Recommendations

Sea Rays are floating living rooms and not something many of us consider as offshore boats. Luhrs boats would be my choice for something big enough to comfortably overnight on and trust for the crossing and Florida storms that will eventually catch you.

    Diver Dead in South Florida

Liveboating is inherently dangerous, and absolutely required as a pracrice in the dive industry. This is a tragedy and the specific details of how the diver got into the props are not publicly known. Utlimately the Captain is responcible for that even if she swam headfist into the prop on...

What Can The Industry Do To Help Independent Instructors?

And for the record, if Iwanted to do something else, Id sell the shop and just run charters and act as an independent instructor. It would be so much easier and profitable however I didnt feel that there was a shop I could work with back when I was doing exactly that. So I didnt ask the...

What Can The Industry Do To Help Independent Instructors?

Well Capt Sinbad here goes; I Charge $6650 for DM training. Of that my cost on materials is $165 for a DM crew pack. The certifying in instructor gets $300. How you figure my cost on pool, park admissions, fills, boat trips and personal time is up to you. Burt it comes out of about $200. If you...

What Can The Industry Do To Help Independent Instructors?

Well alot has been said already but my shop has always worked with independent instructors because a rising tide floats all boats. They have channels of acquiring new divers that are better in some circles than ours and ultimately we have only ever been in competition with them for students not...

Spearing off PCB FL in 150'

That's an East Coast thing. Not a single worm in this guy. ---------- Post added December 6th, 2013 at 12:25 PM ---------- Hank, They are a hair less skittish than Blacks but they both have a good tendency to head for a hole when pressured. This hole was just big enough for me to get into too...

    New to spearfishing. Need advice.

Make sure its an apples to apples comparison. Many railguns use different alloys than the Spring Stainless Steel used in billers and Ocean Rhinos. Also, longer shafts will be bent more easily than shorter shafts, think leverage. Next of course is how you put pressure on the shaft while the fish...

    New to spearfishing. Need advice.

I would still say 90cm is too short but thats a general statement for gulf spearing. Range is a function of shaft length as it penetration. You will want a bigger gun than that 32" on day 1. Dive shops on the Gulf shouldnt even have guns that sized IMHO.

    PCB Conditions report 1-12-13

Well the great weather has led to warmer water and great conditions locally. We crossed the tideline about 2 miles out and thew water temp jump from 58*F to 63*F and it turned that pretty shade of blue that means good vis. Seas were 2-3', bottom temp was 63-64*F depending on whose computer you...

    Dive Locker in PCB

I use Trip Advisor when I go out of town to plan all my adventures and accommodations, it hasn't steered me wrong yet on places to stay, eat or experience. But google reviews are good too.

    Fishing license for dive boats

Thats a tough one. To me it was easier to spend the money on the state license and have the peace of mind that we are above board and beyond reproach. I can too easily see that the one time that my crew just forgot to check and make sure a passenger physically had their fishing license, would be...

    Empire Mica?

Its a hell of a long way to go to see a debris pile. The easiest way to get there is to launch a private boat at Indian Pass, its only 22 miles that way. IMHO There is so much limestone reef worth diving soooo much closer than that, that you would get much more bang for your buck chartering a...
