Admit to being a SBer or not

I never thought about mentioning SB. On vacation I like to be just an anonymous diver.

    Need help choosing dive system

Take some time & think about the type of diving you would like to do. If it's eventually Technical, don't buy recreation gear now that you'll have to get rid of later. Also, make sure you can get local service for the gear that you decide on. My .002 Good Luck & Safe Diving

    Drysuit certification really needed?

Most shops will include the course with a drysuit purchase. Besides the basics, some will also go through how to service, repair & replace the seals and valves.

It's in the midwest also. I'll be polite & leave it at that.

    scubapro/uwatec SMART TEC

I also have a smart com. It's in a box in the bottom of my dive locker. Even after the recall, it's still buggy. Can't turn off all of the alarms, dealer only replaceable batteries, inaccurate; compared to my VR-3/gauge combo.

    What is YOUR opinion...

Oceanic, by design will let water enter the exhaust valve if you decide to go upside down, & the Omega II's breathe wet. Not my choice for a regulator.

    so i'm buying a drysuit...

It might save you some money to look at USIA.com. They make Great suits, here in the US. :usa_2: I've put mine through quite a bit, & it still functions well. With DUI, your just paying for a name. Also, do a search for people having problems with DUI suits. You should find a few...

    Canister Lights

A second vote for OMS: 10w hid. I don't think the 21watt hid is available yet.

    Bp/W pockets

I've been using the OMS No-Sag pockets for awhile now, and for me; (river, lake & ocean diving) they work fine. Each pocket has 3 compartments: 1 - Velcro release bottom/with pulls, for weight. zipper top. 2 - Zipper top, big enough for a low profile spare mask. 3 - Outer bellowed...

    questions for instructors

Ask to attend a few pool & open water sessions with the shop your looking at. See how they treat their customers & staff. I once picked a shop based on a discussion at Dema. Big Mistake. Oh well, live & learn. Good Luck to you.

    Safe Diving Kit (In-Water)

You first put the phone in the "Baggie" & then in the OMS 660' depth rated container. I use the OMS EDS system. Verizon coverage, Motorola phone. You do use it only when it won't get soaked. (Common Sense) No problems yet. Completing the dive, Where everyone does good - ok Having hot...

    Safe Diving Kit (In-Water)

They do make waterproof baggies for phones. At the 2004 Dema in Texas they had waterproof bags for almost anything. You might want to go to the Dema show to keep updated on the new gear. You might even pick up a few free samples for yourself. :-)

    BP/W or Computer?

    Not true, I dive with a VR-3 Computer & a BP/W.

BP&W input from LDS (what do you think)

Others have made some good points. Your local dealer has a higher buying requirement with recreational manufacturers, than with OMS & Dive Rite. You can do everything you are used to & more with a BP/W, you just need some time to tune your buoyancy to the new gear. Back flotation needs less...

    Accident Analysis for recreational diving?

I agree, I also think that : In the likely event _____happens to you is not adequate. Certain training organizations want to make everything happy with no negative or ill effects at all what so ever. During my (Insert Generic Organization Here) IDC, the CD assigned me DCS as a topic...
