    Suunto Gekko Backlight

As bobco said, when your diving at night, your flashlight is more than enough light. A backlight just kills the batteries early. I dive the Gekko and have never had a problem with not being able to see the display.

Do I really need a computer?

Hi Plungebob, Diving the St. Lawrence is an incredible experience. They don't call it the Canadian Caribbean for nothing. Gotta love those 3+ knot currents @ Brockville. I was diving Brockville 2 weeks ago, found a dive pouch for weights and a knife on that wreck!!! I dive with a Sunnto...

Tired of Diving? Are you still in love with the sport?

WOW, that's like 20 dives a month. Very impressive. The thing that would stop me after all those dives in such a short time is putting all that gear on, then off, fills, lugging the gear to your car, 1300 times, ugh.

Do I really need a computer?

DiveGolfSki, what difference does it make how many dives I have under my belt (which is approaching 100)? I am still entitled to an opinion am I not? I was recently on a dive expedition with 20 advanced divers. Out of the 20 divers, 18 of them had computers. On the average, we were doing 5...

WW2 Plane found in Lake Muskoka

The Waome was a fun wreck to dive. Cold at the bottom, but when you ascend, it feels like you are going through a sauna. What's not to like about that wreck, its intact, upright, you can penetrate...

Do I really need a computer?

Why would you dive tables, it makes no sense. If you like diving, you will get much more bottom time with a computer then diving a square dive that does not take into account different levels. Also, if you do something stupid like ascend to quick, it will set off the alarm, giving you some...

suunto gekko wrist mount to console conversion

No difference technically, one goes on your wrist, the other on your console. Personally, I like mine on my wrist, find it easier to view then in a console.

Children becoming certified in some countries before 12

I would not allow my child to dive before twelve a least (in open water). A pool is fine, but too much can go wrong in open water and I would question if any youth would be able to keep there wits about them in a panic situtation.

The five stages of sea sickness

I spent my summers as growing up on my dad's boats, from small to large, without ever getting sick. I did fly in a small single engine plane and when we turned too tight, I had the feeling, but managed to keep my lunch inside me.

    buying wet suits

If you get a chance, you should check out the Bare 7MM Arctic SGS Full, with the vest. It has hydrostretch and glideskin neoprene to help get in and out of it. The nice thing about Bare is they have many different sizes right off the shelf, so you can save some money if you need a custom fit...

Turn you head sideways, if you brain falls out, you have a hole.

    Nearly completed!!

Like you Darin, I also just bought the "the critical gear". I tried several different products, ending with the Sherwood Avid with Maximus regs and Sherwood Luna with Maximus regs for my wife. As the cost of the computers would really add to the final tally, we held off on them for now, but I...

    I need coldwater diving tips

When the water is too cold, I usually start having sinus problems. It isn't a problem on the first dive, but once my nose starts running, my diving is nearing an end. I only encounter this in really cold water though. Also, if its too cold, I'm not enjoying myself.

    BCD annual inspection

It boils down to protecting your investment. If you don't have it serviced, and something does occur, the vendor can refuse to fix/replace your product.
