VR3 - Opinion Based on Facts

No need to worry about having burst my bubble, as I was merely addressing the fact that the term Indiglo was being used inappropriately. Delta P uses a different system than a $ 10 watch. The electro luminous screen on the VR3 is said to have a life of 5 years CONSTANT USE. But that is...

    Technical Question...help please

You ask about THERMOCLINES, but did you really mean to ask about HALOCLINES ? From your first paragraph, I get the feeling that you are speaking of a layer of saltwater under a layer of fresh water; a condition that exists in places such as some cenotes in Mexico.

    Another DIR Light Question...

My cannister is negative 2 lbs buoyant, but I don't need anything on the left hand side to compensate for it. I haven't had any problems with it affecting my trim at all.

    cenotes

samcvic, I'm glad you got to do a cenote dive while you were down there. Chac Mol was my first cenote dive, where we went to see Cauac Na (Monster's House), a HUGE stalactite. After diving the cenotes, the reef diving just doesn't seem as exciting.

    UK Remora Knife

I used the hose mount and mounted it on my inflator hose...it is out of the way so I can properly operate the inflator, but it is close at hand when I have had to use it.

So, who carries a pocket mask?

In open water, I carry a pocket mask. I also keep one handy in my gear box. When cave diving, I don't carry a pocket mask, as I have too much in my pocket such as extra mask, back-up light, tables, etc., plus, I don't think it would do much good in an overhead environment. I only hope that...

    Full cave and Nitrox?

I guess you would have to ask JJ, since he wrote the book on these fundamentals of DIR. I can only assume that he has the data that would support these methods as being sound diving practices. One reason that the stage or deco bottles are worn on the left side is that DIR configuration calls...

Please Comment on my first Setup. Plan to buy tomorrow !

I have to agree with ElectricZombie; since learning about DIR, I wish I would have done it right the first time. Too bad for me that DIR wasn't around when I started diving. If only I had purchased BP and Wings years ago.....it would have saved me from having bought a jacket BC, then a...

Oh what the heck. For my new pal, jepuskar, I'll add a post in the effort to reach 1,000,000 posts (holding my pinky in Dr. Evil fashion as I type this).

    ScubaPro's R-380 Octo or R-180 Octo ? X650 or S 600 ?

I second the vote for the MK25/S600. I have one and it is a great breathing regulator and the second stage is very light and comfortable. I also have an R190 octo, but I have problems all the time with it free-flowing.....I wish I had spent the extra $30.00 and went with the R380. Oh well...

    Full cave and Nitrox?

Stage bottles are typically worn on the left side to better facilitate streamlining and one hand valve management. Wearing stage or deco bottles on both sides limits flexibility and gives you an awkward muscleman posture. If you use a DPV, bottles on the left side facilitate better control of...

    Nitrox certification

Yeah, but the course to get an ego the size of GI3's takes a lifetime to complete.

    Which nitrox course ?

The great Spare Air / SpareAir topic

Not a bad idea, but if I have to use Spare Air, then my diving skills are probably lacking to the point that I wouldn't be able to navigate my way back to the mooring line.

    Which nitrox course ?

I worked up to Rescue Diver with PADI and then began my technical training with IANTD. People like to bash PADI, but PADI gave me the skills necessary to enter the IANTD training. IANTD took me to a whole new level. As has been discussed many, many times before, it is the Instructor that...

The great Spare Air / SpareAir topic

Great idea ! I was kind of thinking the same thing, so after my last post on this thread, I went to my drawing board and went to work on designing a Spare Air propelled DPV. I also thought that when I have been at depth for a long time and am too tired to swim back up to the surface, all I...

Please Comment on my first Setup. Plan to buy tomorrow !

Dxtreme, I posted my input on your other thread, but wanted to add this: While working on my DM training, I use a Scubapro R190 octopus, but it frequently free-flows, so if I had to do it all over again, I would spend a little more for a better octopus.

Comment before i buy tomorrow !

Dxtreme, I use a Scubapro MK 25 / S600, and it is one of the best breathing regs that I have ever used. You've made a great choice with this reg. I use an Oceanic Sidescan compass, which I use on a wrist-mount, and have been happy with it, too. I can't tell you anything...
