I would think that the food saver sucks the air out, thereby making air tight...however, at the ambient 1ATA. When you change the ATA, wouldn't that do something to the spaces in the the sealed bag?

she sounds like a prime candidate for someone who at some point is going to get spooked and shoot to the surface....or rip your reg out of your mouth if she gets a little water in hers. I don't think you should worry about her classroom behavior though, its the instructor's call on what to do...

I usually start by hosing it off while haning (in your case to get the last remnants of guts off of it). Then i soak it in either the tub or the washer in some very mild detergent or Wool lite. A soft scrub brush works great...make sure you move the zippers up and down a lot while its soaking...

I'm torn too when it comes to LDS and LP or others like them. My personal trade off is, I'll give whatever business I can to the LDS, but sometimes, the .com's just can't be beat. I've bought most of my gear through .com's...but the LDS gets my dollars when it comes to certification classes...

I currently dive a Mares Epos...its an older, less expensive reg. I love it. Never failed or come close to failing. Its simple and it breaths well. I've dove dacor and Yukon and wasn't impressed with either compared to my Mares. Of course, I could just be getting lucky so far.

Regardless of the why, i'm sorry for his family and friends. Another unfortunate aspect is that people who are not certified cave divers give caving a very bad wrap. I fear that one day enough of these incidents will happen where the counties feel that they need to start closing these wonders...
