    Seattle aquarium octopus eats sharks

You want to keep people from messing with the little octopi. Just show'im this clip. Something tells me the aquarium doesn't have many volunteers to dive in that tank alone.

What's the coolest thing you saw this month diving?

Best thing this month. Went to the Panama City jetties to check out the vis a week after Ivan. Me and a sea turtle almost collide headfirst 9 ft down. Visibility was about 3 ft and he saw me at about the same time I saw him. We scared each other and he swam away.

    favorite underwater character?

Have you seen Sealab 2021? My favorite is CPT Murphy. I guess more famous would be Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama.

    Shore diving from Panama City...

Past 2 weekends me and my bud have been doing the touch the grate and head on back. No cert required and it's fairly simple. Me and my buddy always agree on our ditch sign and stay along the piping on the floor in case we need a line back out. We also do the jetty dives down in PC and...

    Shark puppet

I read a Rodale's Scuba article once that suggested getting a little hand shark puppet. Does anyone know where to get a shark/cuda/moray hand puppet?

    Sleep or lack there of

I don't know why I didn't think about it before but maybe scent will assist you in getting more sleep. If your husband has a jacket or something that has his scent on it, it might help to get to sleep if you take that bed with you (the teddy bear effect.)

    Buddy breathing

I have to agree with you on that it seems like some instructors don't take it upon themselves to set up their students for success. While I felt my instructor kinda "shotgunned" me through to certification, he did focus on safety skills such as buddy breathing. In addition, every dive with...

    Buddy breathing

I found this to be true wih my parents. When they found out I was going to take up SCUBA they sent me a Sherwood reg in the mail. The first thing I noticed, no octo. I asked my folks about this and they responded with "Why do you need a 2nd regulator?" then they went on to remind me to...

    Hurricane Ivan is next...

Obviously you haven't seen that storm track that shows the next storm giving the Florida coast the "finger" before it makes landfall. Right now I'm watching and waiting for that eye to keep on heading North, it sitting just ESE of me and it's making me nervous. Already had to deal with a...

    Sleep or lack there of

One of the things I heard that helps if you work hard during the day is to: 1) Get a notepad and write down all the frustrations you've been dealing with 2) Take those notes and bunch them up furiosly and toss away 3) Take a warm bath and/or drink a warm cup of tea 4) Lower room...

    Buddy breathing

I use the buddy breathing skill as my signature/joke. Recently someone mentioned that their instructor did not believe in emphasizing buddy breathing as it can make a problem worse (I'm guessing the argument is that the octo should be used instead.) Anybody have opinions on this skill, i.e...

How deep have you gone and why ?

120ft for myself in order to retrieve some divers who were too deep for their current skill level.

Ok, So I have to puke underwater. Now what?

Never had to puke but I always knew about going through the reg. I have to say that the octo thing is a good idea. I think the taste in the mouth alone is bad enough, I wouldn't be able to deal with it in my reg for the rest of the dive.

    New Divers and Dangling Equipment!!!

That's a good question. I have on occasion had my reg slip out and I spent some time trying to get it back. I guess attaching it with a loose cord to the front of my BC makes the most sense. As for buddy breathing, there is a possibility that this may stem from when some recreational divers...

    sealab 2021

I am really hoping for a Sealab 2021/Diving T-shirt. My favorite episode so far was when they replaced the air generators and everybody started suffering from Nitrogen Narcosis. Now that I think about it, I don't think that or any episode make sense.

    Why did this happen?

You're not weird! You're a diver. I believe water does have a calming effect and the biggest thing for me is that there is more rock in the boat than there is motion when you are in the ocean.
