Get the normal size backplate that comes with the Halcyon setup. There is no need for different size backplates.
You might want to take a look at the Eclipse wing from Halcyon. It has an outer shell for better abrasion protection. (I have never had a problem with my Pioneer wing anyway.)...
I think we are already at this point. While divers are not killing themselves left and right, some of the things I see other divers doing make me beleive that adequate training is not being given.
Government regulation is not the answer. The government can't even ensure that my mail arrives...
From the articles I have read in such magazines, any yokel with a pen and a passing interest in diving is qualified. I'm guessing that you have not read some of his past articles or did not take notice of some of the things stated in them.
S30V is a high carbon stainless steel that will easily rust when exposed to salt water. For a folder or fixed blade for land use, S30V is my favorite steel. S30V will take a good edge and hold it for a long time with little effort. I have two folding knives that use this steel, and I have...
I would suggest that you consider a 7ft hose. I know that 2 extra feet seems like a lot, but I assure you that the length is quite managable. The extra room a 7ft hose provides during an OOG emergency is nice.
You may want to reconsider taking a class that requires you to wear a snorkel...
A 7ft hose is appropriate for any type of recreational diving. The advantages are clear to anyone who has used one for any length of time. If you are having problems deploying it properly, then you haven't practiced enough. Diving with a snorkel is just sloppy. Unless you have a magic...
Stay away from integrated weights. They are bulky and a pain to insert and release. For times when I do need some weight, I use a weightbelt. (With two buckles.) It's simple and it works.
I wouldn't purchase anything based on the recommendation of Roadales. Roadales commenting on diving...
This is what I would do:
Get a SS BP - 6lbs
Use a SS single tank adapter - 2lbs - 5lbs
Lose the Transweight system thing
Use a regular weight belt...don't use the ACB's or anything similiar.
You will likely find that with the added weight of a SS BP and the SS STA, you will need to add...
The Mk25 has an external IP adjustment...the Mk20 does not. A Mk20 can be "upgraded" to a Mk25 in about 2 minutes by installing the new part. The external IP adjustment is convenient if you service your own regs, otherwise, it will serve no purpose to you. Before the enternal adjustment came...
It's not your job to ensure the economic stability of the LDS by overpaying for you gear. If they don't/can't sell you the gear for a reasonable price, look elsewhere. If you can get the gear you want online for $300.00 or more less than from the LDS, I think it would be foolish not to buy...
I just read this article this afternoon. Roadales has been sending me a free subscription for years now.
The "suicide strap" reference was odd to say the least. I've never heard anyone call it that before and it seems biased. The author also stated that the pressure gauge should be off...
The price in my area is about $35.00 per stage IF the reg is still under warranty. That comes to $105.00 per year in service fees alone. If your reg is not under warranty, you can expect to pay an additional $40.00 - $60.00 just for the parts. As jamei said, you would really be better off...
