Someone mentioned it attaching using its gills. The sucker is actually a modified dorsal fin that is flat and convex and they can create suction by moving the segments of the fin.
Others have already said it, if you want to do research get the advanced degree. If not, you can stop at a BS or MS but jobs are likely to be thin. I stopped at a MS. I graduated in 1990 and now act as a planner on large civil works projects for the evil Corps of Engineers. I'm able to bring...
Definitely not leatherjackets. They are very distinctive with a very pointed head and a more angular body. These are likely either florida pompano or permit, depending on the counts of the dorsal and anal rays. Let me know what you figure out.
Due to the shape of the body and the coloration on its sides I would go with L. microlophus (redear). However it doesn't have the little red tab on the flap of the operculum that you normally see with redear. This may have disappeared at depth though. I definitely do not see it as a bluegill...
Howdy, I'm also from Texas and I'm a Marine Biologist. I have a BS in Marine Biology and a MS in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. I would recommend that if you're serious you plan on getting a PhD. If you don't you'll likely be doing scut work for your entire career. I have pretty much left...
Sorry for the long delay in responding. Been out of the state for a few weeks.
I'm definitely trying to do it so I don't lose sync. On my last trip I looked down several times to find out it wasn't reading psi. I'd like to mount it on a BC and then lessen the sync problems.
Please...
I have an Oceanic VT Pro computer and would like to attach it to a retractable clip and attach to my BC. However, it doesn't have an easy to remove wrist strap. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and what a setup like it might be. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Just wanted to throw in the fact that we got back from a cruise today and we dove Cayman on Wednesday :D . We were told by the dive boat operator during our surface interval that cruise ships have been coming in for three weeks now. The dive shop we used was still repairing but is up and...
I'm probably going to stir the pot but here goes. I'm still not convinced that the animal brought onto the boat by hook was a dolphin. I also am a Marine Biologist and I work with several biologists as well that have experience working around dolphins in offshore situations, both as by-catch...
My wife recently had it done and the Dr. recommended that she wait 30 days to dive. We were in the process of getting re-certified and we did our check out dives on day 30 post surgery. She had no issues and did very well during the dive. The only post-op problems she had was halos arounds...
For someone new to these boards can you let me know where this is going to be located. Just read it and might be interested in getting out to see the sights. Thanks.
I took my new Oceanic VT Pro to the pool yesterday to get it set up and enjoyed every minute of it. However I have one question. I looked through the directions on how to turn it off so I don't waste the batteries and there was nothing. I'm new to the whole dive computer thing and just wanted...
