    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

I haven't been on here in years either. Almost too sad for words right now. Lynne, wherever you are I hope there's a dive site so full of nudibranchs and little critters that you can barely see the reef Safe travels. -- Nick

    Cenote Xcacelito

Ed: I think that one is part of the Xunaan Ha system, currently the 5th longest submerged cave in the world (160,000+ feet of cave). I read today that they are about 80 feet away from proving it connects to the ocean but the passage may not be big enough for a human. Sadly much of the cave may...

What requires more weight: wetsuit or drysuit

yes, compared to a 7MM wetsuit in general in California, you will use more lead in a drysuit (but you can also be significantly warmer) When I dove 7MM wet in Socal (very few dives like that ! Way too cold!) I used 14 pounds of lead (approximately) Going to a tri-laminate drysuit, I went to...

Where to dive in LA area?

This is taken at 200 feet with no strobes (total ambient light only) just last year :)

Hoping to find the joy in diving again

...Not to drag up the camera issue again, but did you check your homeowners or renters insurance? We had a buddy drop his entire rig as he jumped in the water into 180-200 feet. His insurance covered it 100% with no deductible...it may be too late to make a claim now but worth looking into ?

    Vortex 3-18-2012

Awesome. I have an idea too. How about before you make any more posts about this, you go down to a Florida or Mexico cave, install all the equipment, convince some local divers (good luck on a ranch in Mexico) to be On-call to respond to any emergencies. Then come back and give a report on "how...

    Vortex 3-18-2012

... just out of interest, how much cave diving do you do ? (And how much would 500,000+ feet of that line cost which is actually less than the size of some of the Mexico systems) and ... yeah, whos going to be "on call" to come out & rescue people butts after the 85th "false alarm" Just does...

    Vortex 3-18-2012

Probably the best post on this thread I read so far. I have "full cave" and you wouldn't see me in this one in 100 years. ---------- Post added at 01:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 PM ---------- No. The only cases would be a dedicated "support team" but not some general guys...

Have you ever done anything on a dive that you KNEW you weren't supposed to?

Definitely taking the 5th here, but I justified it by 1*) I was either a single man, so if I killed myself doing something stupid, at least I wouldn't be around to cry about it afterwards 2) I was doing the "illegal" thing with the person I most cared about (so see #1) I suppose there is the...

    NACD Intro - 58cf Limit - Why?

Because every time I/"we" do - We get called "Elitists" - Everyone argues that they "shouldn't have to go back and take all the 'beginner' classes all over again "Just to take a cavern/cave course" - No one likes the (supposed) rigidity and "non-thinkingness" that they believe those classes...

    NACD Intro - 58cf Limit - Why?

Agreed, now I am off to climb Mt Rainier in my slippers and and leisure suit :) EDIT: It will probably be OK as long as I only go a couple thousand feet up, right ???

    NACD Intro - 58cf Limit - Why?

Not as big a barrier as several (tens of several?) feet of solid rock and no air between it and the water. I think there SHOULD be a big barrier to going into a cave, and 1/3's on singles "these days" (i.e. with modern gear, training and knowledge) is pretty nuts. It's not necessarily even...

    Another explicit pee-valve thread

I usually try to "go" on the surface with my suit 1/2 open. That means I can get the kinks out far more easily and give things a gentle "test run" point (b) is the ley here.

Thermal Fusion -- three thumbs up!

I'd like to try one, but I am highly suspicious it will beat the DUI 400 Thinsulate.

    Can someone explain Ratio Decompression?

...I could but I might give you DCS :) heh heh heh seriously, it'd been rehashed so much that a search would be better than doing it all over again yet again

DUI Zipseal with SI-Tech... how does it actually hook up?

Well, you could cut off the zip part and have someone glue the DC (maybe Sitech?) rings direct to the suit I suppose :) Problem with that is that I find it a good idea to retain the latex seal in case a glove leaks or wont attach properly and also for warm water diving. The new si-techs I think...
