Why the hate/ridicule for split fins?

Haven’t been on SB for quite a while and this thread reminds me why. Who gives a rip what others wear? All the big dive training organizations work very hard to get new people into the sport to have fun and be safe. Use the fins that you want, learn from others, ask questions, TRY out new...

PADI Rescue Diver Course as an SSI Diver

If you are fairly sure you will not work as an instructor in the future, I recommend what others have said....there are many ways to improve skills and learn new ones without going Pro. Not sure of your area but my insurance sets me back several hundred dollars thus insuring that this "Pro" gig...

    Article: Destination Spotlight: Roatan, Honduras

Been to Cocoview 11 times and going back in May. Totally safe out there but they do have security for the resort. Taken several tours on the island and never had a problem. I will not go to the mainland. I am sure the AKR is nice but if you want to eat, sleep dive and repeat with the most...

    JTrak

I run only a MAC and haven't been able to download my Galileo Sol data for a long time. I am now running Crossover to run Windows programs but cannot seem to get it to download JTRAK. Anyone have a good source to download it, how to install it on a MAC, and last but not least, how to get my...

    Go Pro Fogging

Heading to Roatan next week and my buddy and I both have Go Pro Hero 2 and the flat port with red filters but we have been told there is a fogging problem. I am at a loss to explain this because the case is so tiny AND if one used the same precautions i.e. not opening the case in the boat but...

    April Fools Joke

Ok, I am planning a joke on a friend and I need help locating a rubber moray eel that will swim relatively well when pulled by a piece of mono filament line. I found one that is about a foot long but would like one just a little longer. Any ideas?

Good Price for an Oceanic Atom 2 Computer and Wireless Transmitter

A friend is wanting to sell his and it has about 120 dives on it. What would be a good price...ballpark? It has been serviced. Thanks

    PADI vs NAUI

YES! Does that violate PADI standards? NO Would I lie about it? NO I would tell them why to their face and document it with PADI. You can play word smith and amateur lawyer all day long but in the end, a PADI instructor has the right and obligation to not certify someone they feel in unsafe...

    PADI vs NAUI

I have read this thread off and on for a LONG time and it is the same people saying the same things over and over and over. Here is a quote from post #15 way back in August of 2003: Walter and Jonathan, Here we go again. Does it have to be spelled out in the standards? (I know Walter's...

Good Training Dive site on TenKiller

Thanks guys. That is exactly what I needed. I wish they would send some rain down this way. Lake Travis at Windy Point....dive platforms are already about 5 feet deep. Two years ago we had to stop all training out there. Saw parts of the lake that usually are never seen though.

Good Training Dive site on TenKiller

I need to come to Oklahoma later this summer and train a couple of family members. I have never dived Lake Tenkiller and am curious if there is a "commercial" scuba park there or can someone recommend a place that most training takes place? Looking at the water conditions up there with all...

    reusing a Padi OW book

This has been an interesting discussion. I should have remembered from my IDC that you must be a lawyer to read between the lines and to read the actual lines and then interpret them into something understandable. My daughter in law is a Patent Attorney and she says that if a book, DVD, music...

    reusing a Padi OW book

True statements....however, we tell our students to fill out the KR's in the book and most write in the book. If they copy the pages, then they are violating copyright. I have my students do exactly what you said, fill them out on their computer or on a blank sheet. I do put a copy of the...

    PADI Rescue Diver

Definitely take the Rescue Diver course and the EFR. It is the most challenging and most rewarding class you will ever take in diving. Properly trained, you will become much more aware of problems before they happen (and like my instructor told me....learn who to avoid in the water)...

    reusing a Padi OW book

In a word NO. They are copy righted and technically it is illegal to even copy the knowledge reviews (that is why they are attached and aren't made to tear out). PADI changes their manuals just about every year along with just about everything else. As a PADI instructor, I am almost...

    PADI DM swim times

Possible of 5 for each task 12 is passing Treading water is just you only - can use a wetsuit but your supposed to be weighted for neutral buoyancy. BTW, it is just not going underwater...just float on your back...I picked a cloud out and used my hands to turn circles. The last two minutes...

Home Owners Association - Going Ballistic

I have read most of the posts in this long thread and I live in a HOA neighborhood that has its share of Nazi's. Luckily the President is a close friend and has a brain on his shoulders. In Texas, the HOA board has almost extreme power. Case in point. Last year in the Dallas area, a family...
