    Single Tank Sidemount

Hi Guys, I've been outta the game for ages and only recently do I have some spare time, albeit short time lol. Anyway, I do mostly open water boat dives around South East Asia in mild to swift currents. I'm using skeleton harness of my own design (similar to the razor harness), an Oxycheq...

    Jacket BCD or wing????

If you are in a BSAC club the majority would be using a bp/w or back inflate however, most would advocate that you experience a bp/w firsthand before you make any firm decisions. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

    How about that sidemount

I wouldn't say you need swivel as I have used my DS4 and Legend LX for sm and they worked fine. The beauty of SM is you can use pretty much any reg as you won't have to worry bout routing issues as with BM.

The biggest problem with Jet Fins

Cracked rails... that reminds me of one my the funniest dive trips I've ever been on. A buddy showed up with what can be best described as a jet that looked like torn up Swiss cheese... Dog was all he said. The whole weekend he could barely keep straight all he could do was a modified flutter...

Any wet suit recommendations for my tall daughter?

Not exactly, daddy's looking for a shorty for his daughter however, he did mention getting something warmer in the future. I recommended that he just forgo the shorty and go full anyway.

    How about that sidemount

I would suggest that you do more research on the gear and diving conditions that you would be entering. Most importantly, speak to your future instructor and get an idea of what and why certain gear is used. However, a reg is just a reg and more importantly, find out what regs are best...

Any wet suit recommendations for my tall daughter?

I certainly won't advice a men suit or suits meant for for something other then diving cus of the fitting and the materials used. Non diving suits like surfing, water board or water skiing are designed with flexibility and warmth rather then using materials with compressions in mind. A surfing...

    Sinus problem or reverse block?

It does sound like a combination of both. A sinus inflammation that resulted in some blockage however, not enough to cause equalization issues during the dive. However, the cold air, pressure etc etc could have added more gunk in the trunk. I have sinus issues too so I try to avoid...

Dangerous psychology- Diving beyond one's training

I agree completely. There in lies the distinction of those who can are are willing to help vs those who sit back carp and criticize.

    Some Newbie Questions

As Dr Lynn said, bm and sm are 2 totally different setups. However, a lot of sm is diy. What is your current bc as some are adaptable for sm even a bp/w can be adapted to some extent for sm. Netdoc made a really good post on sm modifications to his express tech which will give you some idea...

Any wet suit recommendations for my tall daughter?

Looks like your entire family is the tall lanky kind. If a bare is baggy on your son and your daughter is nearly as tall your best bet are slim fitting wetsuits like Scubapro, Pinnacle or Henderson. I would also recommend that you just go get a full jumpsuit instead of a shorty as you get a...

    ScubaPro vs. Tusa Fins

A torn ACL would make lateral movements difficult so a modified flutter or flutter might be a better choice for now. Like the Jets, apollos are pure rubber and will really last a long long time. I own 2 pairs of them and other then the weight, the apollos are fantastic. There is a stiffer C...

What is a "skin" and why do you use it?

I suppose any kind of rash guard like Lycra or Polyolefin is a skin. I would use skins for 4 reasons: 1. UV protection 2. Sting protection 3. Ease of donning/doffing a wetsuit 4. Pre/post dive comfort

Could you have done this at 30 dives?

Yup if you didn't move at all after 5 mins... you're dead!

    ScubaPro vs. Tusa Fins

I think that you'll find most splits to be rather mushy and you might feel if you are not moving at all but all friends who have tried them really love the speeds they generate. Another fin that might be worth considering is the weird looking force fin, They really don't hurt my knees too...

What to wear under rental wetsuit for more warmth?

The material appears to be mostly polyolefin however, the construction of all the different brands appear to be different. Lavacore calls their's Trilaminate Polytherm while Hyperflex calls it polyolefin. Regardless of what it's called it appears to be a form of synthetic fleece that reduces...

What to wear under rental wetsuit for more warmth?

I would second the guys recommendation for your own personal wetsuit forget about renting the farmer john or shorties. The scubapro oneflex, hyperflex 2 or thermoprene are all great suits. The other alternative is polyolefin suits but they are expensive. 1. Fourth Element thermocline tops...
