Sorry Squalus but they could guarantee Dive school, not that you would actually make it through dive school. As I said, I don't know if they still have the program but they did because I had guys who worked for me that had gone through it. It was available for Divers, EOD and SEAL's they would...

    Navy Diving Advice

The Navy used to give a guarantee it was called the Divefarer program. I retired almost 4 years ago so I don't know if they still have it or not. You can call any recruiter up and he can tell you if they still have it. But it will not give you follow on orders after dive school. You will be at...

Usually what happens is they do a tour as a Divng Officer and by the time it is up, the see which way the wind is blowing and realize that EOD offers the most opportunity for advancement and put in for EOD school. It makes EOD school shorter becasue they have already gone through dive school.

I don't know much about how SEABEE diving officers are used in the fleet. But it doesn't matter where you go as a junior officer, you are going to have collateral duties. I couldn't begin to list all of the piss ant little administrative chores that need to be done in the Navy but I can tell you...

    Diving in the navy

Sandmanw I hate to rain on your parade, but if you aren't interested in EOD there is little career path for you as a Diving Officer. There are very few billets for your run of the mill Diving Officer. Most of the Junior Officers go EOD after their first tour. Plus now many of the Fleet diving...

Navy SEAL training with dual hose regulator?

i'M NOT SURE WHAT SHOW YOU WERE WATCHING, BUT THE ONLY DOUBLE HOSE SYSTEM THEY USE NOW IS ON THEIR REBREATHERS. DOUBLE HOSE SCUBA REGULATORS WENT OUT DECADES AGO IN THE NAVY. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THERE ARE NONE THAT ARE APPROVED FOR NAVY USE

Left! You idiot! I said Left!

Actually orders to the helm are given as left or right, I.E. Hard right rudder, left full rudder, left ten degrees rudder etc.

    Any NAVY S.E.A.L.s on here?

I am a retired Navy Deepsea Diver (Hardhat) I spent 19 of my 24 years in the Navy in that field and my last 5 years I spent in a support billet running a Dive Locker for a SEAL command. First, SEAL's only get a few weeks of actual diver training with the continuing requalification dives...

    Commercial Diving

Although you can get very good training in the Military in regards to Hardhat diving, you have to understand the training environment is completely different than in a commercial dive school. First if you are interested in Hardhat diving your two options in the Military are the Navy and Army...

    Things you've found under water

Once when I was still a Navy Diver, while diving about 2 o'clock in the morning in Long Island sound looking for some missing pieces to a Submarine which had hit bottom, in the middle of this vast flat, sandy area I found a lump of coal. It was just sitting there all by itself. I searched an...

Diver in California Sues for Being Left

It doesn't matter what this guy did or didn't do in the water, the only thing that matters is that he was left behind! And it was only a matter of pure luck that he is alive today. If it wasn't for one Boy Scout on a training cruise that was paying attention at the right time, the Diver would...

Diver in California Sues for Being Left

As a licensed Boat Captain I can tell you there is absolutley no excuse for leaving a Diver behind! Here in Guam that has happened a couple of times with one of the larger dive operators here which was always on my mind when I was driving a dive boat. I would personally count each head to insure...
