Four European divers missing - Mersing, Malaysia

Couldn't agree more, I keep a small lifejacket strobe( very bright), a small 4x4 space blanket and 12' of strong but light nylon line (to keep a group tied together) in there with my PLB. I frequently dive Neusa Penida, those currents rip through there and if you get to far off the reef and get...

Four European divers missing - Mersing, Malaysia

Respectfully, I beg to differ. My PLB425 ResQlink in a canister works fine, (tested) and it fits tucked out of the way back near the tank, its been there for years, I would never dive the SE Asia open water region without it.

Deep Diving 108 feet w/ a single AL 80 (Air.) No redundancy.

Must have been Diving the SanFrancisco, I also did this dive many times on an 80, ~6 min bottom time if I remember, however we did hang tanks just in case. All throughout the 80’s we routinely dove to 130 on air without backup. We were using Edge computers at the time.

A new kind of long stay visa

Its gonna have to be big! On my normal trips I bring 100kg when I return to my home here. I'm looking for a mid to late Feb departure returning in early May, so hopefully things will have improved by then. But who would have though this would last as long as it has, so I guess anything is...

A new kind of long stay visa

When I go and come back my sausage is not going to last that long.......I'm the resident mule for my office. But yeah, I think you're correct.

This is amazing and good, hope it goes quickly..... I'm curious, must you keep your luggage in the room or can someone pick it up and take it to your permanent or semi permanent stay?

    PLBs Can Save Your Life

Okay, thanks for that, I thought I saw it but wasn't sure, but yeah, thats the one I have. I didn't look at the listing so I was comparing an older price I think.

    PLBs Can Save Your Life

I apologize if this is already posted on here, but this is the one I have been using for the last 18, months, its been very reliable and has good reviews. Price is much better than the old cans and it includes added safety devices that fit in with the PLB. I keep mine on my waist strap next to...

    Richelieu Rock Today

Makes perfect sense to me.....I'll do what I can to make referrals when its possible, I would rather see new divers explore facilities that respect the reefs we so enjoy.

It’s good to see so many Thais taking an interest in diving, I have found the vast majority to be very competent when they gain the experience....and as always experience comes in many forms, each individual is different.

    Richelieu Rock Today

Yeah, it’s a shame really, it’s not necessary and really does a new diver no service to do an open water in this location. A new diver should be focusing on skills, not just surviving surge, currents and crowds. But yeah, this is 2020 and Thailand.....

    Richelieu Rock Today

This was a hastily called long weekend to promote tourism by the local community. So yeah, fair to say it was weekend driven, problem is, booking liveaboard boats during the week is hit or miss due very low midweek demand. Regardless, if you make it I’m sure you can find plenty of places to...

    Richelieu Rock Today

On the positive side, four world class dives today, 30+ years of diving and these were right up at the top. Visibility was medium at about 20+m but the the quantity and quality of the life was off the charts. Lots of current and surge made for epic diving. Downside, same old issue, 12 boats...

A new kind of long stay visa

There’s been a smallish outbreak in the north, at the Burma border. This has affected cities in the north and a few cases have made it to Bangkok now. I actually think this is okay so long as they can keep in check and remains at a low rate. The prevailing attitude that even one case is...

Hopefully, it all goes well, I wouldn’t worry about obtaining a vaccine here, if your willing to pay my guess is it will be available in the private hospitals, which are quite desperate for business right now.

A new kind of long stay visa

I hope you make it in time, the word on the street here is Thailand will quickly move to require a certified vaccine (meaning submitted to the Thai Embassy in your home country) before allowing anyone to enter the country. From here it’s thought they can dramatically reduce the quarantine. Keep...

A new kind of long stay visa

Yes Steve, same here in Bangkok, for those of us living here its really as good as it gets, but for the tourists areas, to me it really is a ghost town, I guess it's all a matter of perspective. My biggest surprise was Samui, I was there last week and so many places are boarded up, I feel for...

A new kind of long stay visa

Actually, the diving here in Thailand has been quite good all summer. Just my opinion, but there seems to be more reef fish and pelagic's, in the park areas anyway. There are plenty of operators open now and the local operators are all quite full on the weekends. Phuket is opening up for the...
