Certifications from different orgs (PADI, NAUI)= better?

Yes, I have failed students because they didn't meet the requirements of the course... Would I do it again? Certainly. Randy

    Drupal and/or vBDrupal...

I have a web site that uses Drupal.... Overall, it is a decent system, but getting it to interact with other systems like osCommerce and WordPress is difficult.... It has a fair amount of plugins, like a dynamic XML Sitemap generator, but the integration of some of those plugins leave a bit to...

    Have training standards "slipped"?

So it is the popularity of the course that is causing the facial imprints in pristine caves, not the reduction of standards.... Could it also be that the popularity of diving, and not the slippage of standards is what is causing the perceived rise in accidents? Again, is it possible that the...

    Have training standards "slipped"?

A beginning theory would be that people don't simply care about the environment they are in.... They believe it is there for their own enjoyment, and it doesn't matter what they do... If divers were getting hurt and dying and having problems, given the current propensity in the news media to...

    Have training standards "slipped"?

So I've been following this thread for quite some time, and there are a lot of things I agree with and a lot that I don't agree with. And have the standards been relaxed in the cave diving community or the technical community? Surely the instructor that certified these cave divers evaulated...

    First Time Diving Doubles

Tammy, Personally I would go get in a pool somewhere first and get used to the characteristics of doubles.... It is like starting to dive again, as you have seen. First off, let me state that I am working off of the Faber LP85 buoyancy specs... 2400 psi with a 10% Overfill Rating to 2640...

Instructors - Agencies Split from overweight

Yes it is in bold in the Confined Water Dive 1 section of the Open Water Instructor manual. Our friend with the 3/4th censored name cut and pasted this from the Digital Instructor Manual.... In it, bold is in blue... My condolences to the family of this person... Randy

    HammerHead II Back Plate

I have one and I absolutely love it.... I opted for the 1 piece STA with mine. The crotch strap was a bit short for me, but that was easily remedied..... I paired it up with a Oxycheq Wing #35 Sig Series from ScubaToys....

    Inadequate Training

In regards to the air depletion skill, here is the quote directly from the 2007 PADI Instructor Manual, Open Water Section, Confined Water Dive 2: Air-depletion exercise — Simulate air-supply depletion to allow student divers to experience the sensation of a gradual increase in inhalation...

Question about air integrated computers and backup

I too am like the OP... I like to keep it simple. That is why I have 1 AI computer, and 1 SPG. I just don't like the idea of having to stop a dive because I don't have an idea of how much air I have. That is also the reason that I have a watch on, and my tables are in the dive bag on the boat...

Question about air integrated computers and backup

Well, I guess that I'm one of the rare individuals that dive with both an AI computer AND an SPG. While it is true that you CAN end the dive if your AI computer dies, the question is "WHY should I have to end the dive?" Case in point, if you are diving someplace like Chuuk or Palau or Hawaii or...

Oxycheq Razor Wing - Any Issues with Durability?

Don't own a Razor wing, but I do own a Mach V 30# wing myself.... It is a great wing, very durable, and as Rob stated, it works really good with steel tanks... The quality of workmanship on Oxycheq wings are absolutely wonderful. Randy

    Mach V 18!!!

I absolutely love my Mach V 30# wing, but just when I think I have found the best wing for singles diving, you come along and invent something else. Sounds like I"ll need to drop some more dough on the 18# wing as well... Would be PERFECT for those Carribean trips down into Bonaire and Coz and...

    Inadequete Drysuit Course?

First of all, only a PADI Instructor with the Dry Suit Specialty Instructor rating is authorized to teach the course. It is fairly common practice to include the course with the purchase of the drysuit. Some of the items you should expect to learn is how to handle runaway ascents, how to...

    Basic IDC inquiry

I did my IDC at Emerald Coast Scuba in Destin Florida. Anna Schmitz is the Course Director down there, and has been a CD since the 80's. She is VERY professional and thorough. The reason I chose ECS was because of Anna's track record and recommendations by several people I talked to. I was so...
