Nicest place to stay in Boracay?

I've never been but I just found out that a former classmate owns the Sea Wind resort. I've heard it's good: Sea Wind Boracay Island - TravelSmart.NET The nice think is it's owed by Joebert Cocjin. Who recognized me at our recent reunion (after 40 years) AND admitted copying from me in...

    Dynamite Fishing in Cebu

Last July, I was diving at the Hilutungan sanctuary of Mactan with my two nephews (one local and the other from the states). It was a relatively calm dive but sometime during the middle of the dive, we heard an explosion and felt the concussion wave. :11: After checking for: (a) a blown...

    PADI vs NAUI

I think this best sums up the differences. Three instructors and their students are on board a dive boat in the middle of the ocean. There is a NAUI instructor, a PADI instructor, and an SSI instructor. Everything is going fine until the boat springs a leak and starts to sink. The SSI...

    Leisure Pro

So outside of ScubaPro, the others don't have a "batteries for life" clause (e.g. Suunto). In those cases, it doesn't matter?

Timex helix dive watch. How deep have you taken it?

I've bought several and gave two to my nephews who have used it not more than 100 fsw without any problem. I haven't been able to use mine since the battery conveniently stops right before a dive. For $30, it's not a big loss and is a great back-up.

    Regs in carry-on

I've never had any issues with my regs in my carry on. A simple explanation is good enough for them. They're not sharp objects and my 7' foot hose isn't much of a threat (hmm... rubber hoses ... nevermind) and I don't have any dive knives attached to them.

    Leisure Pro

All the pros and cons of buying from LP vs an authorized dealer has been discussed so far. However, once the warranty runs out (e.g. Suunto's is good for 2 years) and the computer hasn't required warranty service during that time, should it matter where you bought it? Is post-warranty service...

    Trim Weights?

Same as Kraken, trim pocket with 5lbs. on the tank band on the right side. I have another trim pocket on my left waist belt (I use a Halcyon BP/Wing) where I fine tune my weight (2-4 lbs).

    Buying gear from Ebay

Some of the same people who sell on the gear sale of this forum sell on Ebay. Case in point, I've bought stuff from Ken (Mo2vation) without any problem (looking for my discount Ken .... :)) Like anything else on Ebay (or life), you've got to evaluate a lot to determine who you're buying from...

    Advice on Dominican

A friend returned from the DR and dove with Pirates Cove. I learned to dive in the DR centuries ago and was amazed of the changes. Uve Rath, an instructor, basically has dove the entire island and has discovered numerous new dive sites (virgin wrecks and inland cave systems similar to...

Night Dive for Newly Certified OW Diver?

Well, you don't need a DM if you do a dive in the resort's pool ...:D Seriously, I'd get a DM for your first night dive even in shallow, tame conditions. Your instructor was right about one thing .... definitely do a night dive. Check out this recent post...

    Salvo vs Halcyon Light

All kidding aside, I believe Barry's sentence is about a year. I'd imagine he's prepared contigencies (e.g., Duane) while he's gone. If his business model can't survive his absence for that short a time, then he's got other problems. Besides, with good behaviour he'll be out in no time...

    Building your own wet suit

Uhhh, I seem to be under the impression that a bespoke suit from savile row was made my men tailors?:D I'm with some of the posters on this board. Making (as opposed to repairing) a wetsuit doesn't seem to be cost effective even after considering the sheer joy of building something on your own.

    Salvo vs Halcyon Light

You called and got Barry Miller? Who's going to answer the phone once he reports to jail ... :D Just kidding, thanks Bob, add one more for Salvo. I'm going to do more research and will check out Manta's link. Fortunately, I think I can get try my friend's Salvo for some "hands on"...
