Thank you for the response! My beach diving uses the bag to get from my garage to the gear up point in the back of a truck so not a lot of wear and tear. Looking forward to bringing it to Bonaire and Curacao this May/June.
I am looking at getting this bag to replace my heavier Akona (the handle no longer extends but is fine for our local shore diving). Can you tell me how this held up on your trip? I am just concerned about the lighter material. I have taken the other bag on several trips and it handled fine...
Thank you Aviyes. Those are what I found too and the ones made for a compass are all 3 gauge (the 3rd is on the back of the unit). The 2 gauge ones don't have the slot to see the side view for readings as they are just straight boots.
I will think about just getting a compass on a retractable...
Wow! I didn't think empty dive boots for consoles would be so hard to find. With computers now worn on the wrist I thought companies would be making 2 console boots for the pressure gauge and compass. Based on my Google searches and searches at online dive shops they can only be bought with...
I'll be diving here soon. Can anyone recommend a good book to read about the battles and wrecks so I know what I am looking at? I would like to get a good sense of the history here before I arrive. Thanks.
Thanks for the report as well!
Thanks everyone for your input so far. Here is what I have booked. I am still researching dive ops and where to stay in Coron so any suggestions are appreciated:
Subic Bay with Arizona International 4 nights
Cebu for a couple nights
Malapascua with Evolution 4 nights (May push it to 5)
Coron...
So far I have Sbbic Bay and then am planning on Coron. Philippine Air says 10kg max on that route for baggage. Does anyone know about this route? That is a low baggage allowance and it appears excess baggage is not allowed even if paid for.
I am still making some decisions but have booked 4 night in Subic Bay to start off with. I was told that booking flights while in the Philippines is a great deal cheaper than booking them from the US before the trip. Can someone share their experience with price differential and capacity on...
I've decided to go to Subic Bay first (easy access from Angeles) and dive Coron as well. Once I decide on all 4 (or more) locations I'll figure out the best order in which to visit them. Since those are both wreck locations I am looking for 2 other sites with different dives (sharks for sure)...
Great info so far everyone! Keep it coming. The reason for El Nido was the mention from others on this board. I will be looking for nightlife and land adventures and thought the islands around El Nido looked great for day trips but am open to any and all options.
My diving will be somewhat...
I have come up with several possible dive locations while I am in the Philippines in Nov and would like your advice and suggestions. I will be in Angeles and my idea was this:
Angeles to El Nido (SwiftAir) 4 days
El Nido to Coron (Boat?) 4 days
Head over to Malapascua 4 days
Malapascua to...
I have decided to go to Phuket and dive from there. I know it's probably not the best choice but I hear it is beautiful and there are other attractions as well. Thank you for your input.
I will be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a week. I can extend my trip about 6 more days to dive but don't know where to go. I am currently looking at Lankayak Island but would like some other suggestions. I am willing to fly up to ~ 2 hours to my destination if need be. I know I will need to...
jho- I am actually looking at going there in April. I am still researching the trip and whether it would be feasible for me. I will be in Kuala Lumpur for a week prior. If you would send me some more information on your package, how the transfer would work, etc I would appreciate it. If you...
DOH! Posted a month too late. Oh well, the info may be useful to someone.
We stayed at Villa Madeline in 2007 in a beautiful condo overlooking the ocean with a pool. It was a 20 minute drive to Cane Bay Dive who we did all of our diving with.
I really enjoyed St. Croix and want to go...
I was there in the last year and had no problems at all with any sort of crime. Everyone was friendly and hospitable. I would go back any time and plan on doing so in the next couple of years.
I am reminded of my trip to St. Croix where I was warned about a machette attack that had happened...
That is a horrible story Rhone Man, but thank you for the info. I guess I'll stick to Tobago then if I head down there. It is really sad to see the poverty and the destitution in a lot of 'resort' destinations. There are two completely different sides of several islands, the tourist area and...
