    Catalina diving

I happen to be in Anaheim this weekend with little to do. I was hoping to go to catalina diving but i am buddiless. Does anyone know a good dive boat that takes single divers on short notice? Is there a good site to check conditions?

    taking unpressurized flights after diving

Commercial aircraft are pressurized to a maximum altitude of 8000ft, at least until the Boeing 787 goes production. One of it's selling points is a lower pressure altitude.

Diving new and unknown site - considerations?

I'd start by asking local divers and or shop to list potential local hazards for you. That will give you an idea of what you are facing before you get into the water. An experienced local diving it with you, will be even better. They will give you insight into finding criters as well as safety...

    Quarry Rangers! Divemasters?

I've been diving in the Med in the middle east lately. Most of the operators have heard of NJ but would have trouble pointing to it on the map ;)

Rant about medical forms for scuba instruction

I don't see how this has anything to do with the 'buddy of a diver with a condition' scenario that was suggested but I think everyone agrees with you that talking with a doctor is the best way to minimialize risk associated with any condition.

    Wetsuit divers only!

I'd vote for a detatched hood purely because I had bad luck finding a rack suit with attached hood that fits in the chest and the head. My wife has the same problem.

Bonaire, Is it worth the trip?

Come to Texas for lake diving. You'll never be bored anywhere yo go after that ;)

    Quarry Rangers! Divemasters?

I wouldn't think much about it. They give everybody a hard time going out to the FG. Too many times they have had bad experiences with divers who should have been fine. Being 100 miles out to sea with only a coast guard medivac in case of trouble makes one over cautious. I get the same...

Rant about medical forms for scuba instruction

Not sure how telling the truth on the form helps you here. If a doctor is convinced to clear him that doesn't mean you are going to know any more as a student about your new buddy than you did before. You can't pass around the medical forms to make sure everybody is happy with their buddy's...

Hard time finding a wetsuit that fits.

If you go all out and order a custom suit, consider a 3/2. That's a 3mm full suit and a 2mm shorty that can go over the top. It's like getting 3 suits in one. If you get into rig or wreck diving you may find you want to wear the full suit due to abrassion protection. The shorty is great for long...

Bonaire, Is it worth the trip?

I stayed at Sand Dollar and would go back. Buddy dive was next door and Captain Don's is the next one down. They all looked to be good places to stay but I only personally experienced Sand Dollar. If you are going with non-divers they are probably going to be bored. We put in 4 to 5 dives a...

    Low Vis?

Waiting any longer is pointless. Better to take measures to rpevent seperation. I've had to hold my buddies BC before to keep from getting seperated. My hand just extended into nothingness and disappeared. We were doing searches for a rescue class. If we had become seperated I would have...

    Low Vis?

If I can stretch my hand out in front of me and actually see it I call it 3ft+. If I have to stick the computer against my mask to read it, I call it <1ft. In between is 1-3ft. It doesn't really matter, as long as I know what it means.

    scuba magzines

I'm glad to run across someone involved with the publication. I enjoyed it so much that I spent 5 of my 10 minute layover on Wed trying to stumble into a WHS Smith to find a copy. I was unsuccessful but I'll be through again Tue.

    scuba magzines

The PADI one caught me off guard last month since I had just picked up that month's at home. You had a choice of a magazine focused on Caribbean wrecks or the Red Sea, both with DVD. Make sure you go the WHS Smith, the cover said it was only available there. I'm headed through Heathrow twice in...

    scuba magzines

You think the big players would tap into both markets by offering a choice of targeted audience publications for subscribers. I used to be a member of experimental aircraft association (EAA) and that's what they did. You can have the generic newstand copy or the one focussed on what you want...

    scuba magzines

I'm a fan of the UK publication DIVER. You can find it in Barnes and Noble sometimes. It has a great mix of sites from around the world, recreational and technical (if that is interesting to you). Most the US publications are the same Caribbean and South Pacific photo spreads. Interesting but...

UWATEC Aladan Prime vs Oceanic Veo 180

They sell an IR cable separately. You may be able to pick one up somewhere else cheaper. I had trouble finding anyone who carried one separate from another IR device I didn't want to pay for. I didn't try eBay. Not including one is my only gripe. I had a failure on the original Tec model...

UWATEC Aladan Prime vs Oceanic Veo 180

I have a Tec2g and love it. Easy to use, versatile and downloads to my computer via IR. The prime is basically the same thing as the Tec with less features.
