Looking for PT work in a Dallas area diveshop

I am looking for about 15 hours a week to supplement my other job that is only about 25 hours a week right now. I am a PADI divemaster and I have been assisting with scuba classes at Eastfield college for the past 5-6 years. I am mechanically inclined and would be very good at servicing gear...

That is pretty awesome video quality.

    advancement

I just finished my DM this week. It is a tough process, but it definitely worth it. I don't see any reason to do instructor either. I suppose I would if I could find a really good deal, but I just can't see spending $1500+ when I don't plan on doing it as a job.

New divers hard finding dive buddies?

Well, first off i would say that buddies are over rated, but don't listen to me. Going on actual dive trips with a group has always been the best way for me to meet other divers. You'll find that there is usually a core group of people that go on the trips with the dive shop. The fact...

    The Last Dive

I was also hoping it would have talked more about how Sue dealt with the loss. Most everyone has dealt with the loss of a loved one, but how to you deal with losing the rest of your immediate family in one day?

anyone good at dealing with car sales guys?

You should definitely be wary of them creating a false sense of urgency. Everyone is sales is trained to do that, but don't fall for it. I promise you this, there will be just as good of a deal tomorrow, next week, the week after, and so on until the end of civilization. Secondly, beware of...

    The Last Dive

I related to Shadow Divers more for the sacrifice that Chatterton and Kohler made to identify the sub(risking their jobs, marriages and ultimately their lives) rather than the deaths on the story. It made me wonder if I had ever even come close to that kind of dedication, but I can't recall...

Where do the schools get the $40k/yr figure?

Makes sense. So when people say most graduates are out of the business within 2 years, does that mean most don't even get wet? Here's my situation, I am working in real estate right now. It is fine and all, but if it doesn't pick up by the end of the year I will likely make a career change...

Where do the schools get the $40k/yr figure?

Considering a possible career change next year, I requested recruitment materials from just about every diving school I could find online. One thing they all seem to claim is that commercial divers starting pay is $40k a year. In due diligence, I started looking online and read some of the...

Dive World Austin says they do not maintain rental equipment until it fails

I rented gear from them several times this summer without any issues. Granted, I mostly rented tanks, but they would check the tank pressure in front of me when they brought the tanks out and inspect/replace O-rings before I even got a chance to check them. As for the 7mm suit...back when...

    Strange noise?

It happened to me in Curacao a few years ago. Turned out to be a hole in my BC bladder.

What to look for in a new SCUBA tank?

The real question is if you need a tank at all. I bought one right after I got certified because I don't like to rent. The problem is that I didn't know about Visual and Hydrostatic inpections...more to the point, I didn't realize the cost of said inspections. Look at it this way: The...

Best & cheapest place to get scuba licence

I will have to second trying to find a community college to take your classes. It will usually be a longer class, one day a week for 8 weeks, so you will have more time to study and absorb. At my school the cost of the class was$72, but that was back in '02 so I would imagine it has gone up...

    DFW lake diving???

If you like zero viz diving then go for it. People usually get flamed around here for even daring to suggest that you dive anywhere other than CSSP, Athens or Lake Travis. But I say where is the sense of adventure? I do know from falling off jet skis and kayaks that most local lakes have a...

    how much?

Ebay and Craigslist are you friends. You should be able to get a full set up for well under $1k. I think I spent about $700 for my original set up, buying it one piece at a time as I saw stuff on sale. I have multiples of most things now and couldn't really tell you how much I have spent.

    My first scuba dive.

I'm sure more people would be diving without c-cards if there were still dive shops that would rent gear or fill tanks without carding. I suppose it is an effective racket. Oh and the air I am breathing is somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-5 billion years old. :cool2:

    newbie wants to know....

be sure to keep your plugs..if you change your setup later on you may need them. IE, if you change your "octo" out for one of the low pressure inflator/octo combo then you would need to replug the hole.

Lake travis this summer... is it gonna dry up?

The images of Travis on google maps right now were taken when the lake was way low, kinda neat to look at.
