    Newbie Snorkler Questions

My wife and I have our own vests, but sometimes the cruise line's shore excursion supplier will make us wear theirs. That way they know that we are their passengers and are legally responsible for us. If something happened and we were not in the right vest ...?

Carrying things while snorkelling - how do you do it?

My wife uses a weight belt with D-rings for snorkeling. She has a boat clip to secure her camera to the d-ring. It works fine, remember you are laying on top of the water, so the belt won't fall down your legs. Also, it is the compression of a wet suit that makes the belt loose. If you are...

    Cold Water Gear Advice

I have been out to DS quite a few times with a CDX-5 and never had a problem, water down to 42 degrees. Also, the best way out to there from Manhattan with no car is panaqua.com $120.00 includes two tanks, weights, round trip bus ride, guided dive with a DM and admission. edit, also since you...

    Dive Shop In St. Thomas

I've done Coki a couple of times with my wife. I dive, she snorkels. Fun dives, not exactly nock you socks off, but fun. My wife loves the snorkeling. We have never had a problem with crime. Its the hoards of tourists that put me off a bit though. If you go early its not an issue, but as...

Usia : Techniflex Or Aqua Pro Plus

Not my best effort, trying to hold and shoot. The dark rubber material is the techniflex, the white is the bilam. The techniflex is much heavier and softer.

Usia : Techniflex Or Aqua Pro Plus

I have a USIA deluxe that uses the bilam fabric for most of the suit and the techniflex for the joints. The bilam is crinkly (if that is the right word), a stiff white backing bonded to nylon, the bioflex is soft rubber bonded to nylon. The techniflex fabric feels completely superior to the...

What size suit do I need?

I am the same height and even heavier. I got a XXL 7mm and had the legs hemmed and fitted for $40.00. It is a "custom tailored" suit. The dry cleaners around the corner did it for me. I got the impression from them that this was not the first suit they had worked on. They said, "oh its for...

First BCD - Cressi Start Pro?

Right, it is possible to get a travel BPW. It still boils down to 2 BCDs though, or at least 2 wings. On the other hand there are probably lots of folks with multiple fins, masks, regulators, etc. And, as I said, I found the BP/W to be very comfortable in the water. Something that the...

First BCD - Cressi Start Pro?

I have an aquapro 5 BCD which is a very similar looking Cressi. As far as I can tell it is the same thing from a couple of years ago, the pro start version may be a newly named, raise the price, version of the same thing. For warm water diving, it works, bottom line. I have no major issues...

    Drysuit Roundtable Q&A

I have si-tech quick cuffs glued onto a USIA suit and was thinking of dry gloves. My question is if the pullovers are the cheapest and most reliable, why do the other systems even exist? What is the advantage that makes people pay 10 to 20 times as much for them? Thanks, Derek

Article: Is the Dive Watch Dead?

I wear a dive watch and a dive computer when I am on vacation, mostly on cruise dives. My Oceanic VEO works fine, but keeps terrible time. I don't use the dive watch in the water so much, but out of the water. Before the dive when people ask what time it is so they can set the clocks on their...

    Drysuit Undergarments for Dutch

I was there on July 18th, trying out my new drysuit. I had a 300g polartec undergarment on. I was nice and comfortable around the platform, temps in the 60's. When we did the tanker, 50 degrees, it was cold. I am going back this week end and will wear a wicking layer beneath the undergarment.

Help with choosing my 1st mask :-)

That is like buying shoes online, you need to try them on. Find a dive shop. Hold the masks they have up to your face and breath in through your nose slightly. If the mask stays on your face while you are holding you breath, it fits, if it is stuck to your face buy it. If it falls off, do...
