    Brrrr...I don't think I've dove below 9C, myself.

    Dry hoods

I've gone through a few Viking Drysuits, and a DUI, with latex hoods and use the beanies that came with the suits. You need something to allow air to move within the hood and prevent an ear squeeze. There don't seem to be many folks who sell them, but a quick google for "drysuit hood liner"...

    Metridium Fields

On a good day you can see the pipe from the surface. Follow it 'til you can't, then drop and follow it to the end. Hang a left ~45 degrees---magnetic north---and you'll soon be there.

What sacrifices have you made for diving?

I chose to focus on local shore diving early in my life. This has kept the expenses within my means & rewarded me with 3 decades + of fun California diving.

Two fun dives at Lobos today, with Raftingtigger. The waves looked forbidding at Monastery, and were pretty impressive breaking on the rocks twixt Bluefish and Whalers, but turned into a glassy swell as they rounded into Whalers itself. The boat ramp is very slick! The kelp has filled in...

    Georgia Aquarium dive, worth it?

Looks like the similar names were deliberate, but it's not clear they were otherwise related (based on a small amount of googling): Marineland of the Pacific | park, California, United States Marineland of Florida - Wikipedia Marineland of the Pacific - Wikipedia I grew up in the LA area &...

    Georgia Aquarium dive, worth it?

Back in the 80's, I dove in the shark cage at the old Marineland in Palos Verdes CA. It was fun being able to reach out and touch the sharks...but you don't really see anything different than the folks looking in the windows. I'd do it again...but it was torn down ages ago... Also, they...

    SF dives

The kelp is seasonal, grows in the summer, thins out in the winter. Lobos and Breakwater (San Carlos Beach) are both consistent good dives, but conditions vary.

Stupid question - practicing scuba frog kick alone

FWIW: I've been lap swimming for a couple of years, but have had shoulder problems so am giving it a rest. I scrounged up a pair of lap swim fins and have been doing a paddle board workout the last couple of weeks---alternating 50 yards of flutter, frog, and dolphin kick, with the fins on, for...

    Retrieving integrated weights

I've used my SMB to float/swim with recovered weight pockets, and once an entire weight belt. I recently found two different weight pockets & stowed them in my buddies thigh pockets. Buddy was underweighted & struggling to submerge 'til I loaded 'em up.
