Thinking about diving as a career and want advice!

The answer to that is always "That depends". Become a DM first, then look around at your possibilities, okay? Cart, then horse never seems to work out.

Thinking about diving as a career and want advice!

Best advice that you'll get right there. Unless you have finances to tide you over, it's rare--very rare, for most to completely make their living off of dive instruction alone.

Will be diving Athens today and Terrell (cssp) tomorrow, any tips or advice?

When diving at Athens, be absolutely certain that you rinse your gear thoroughly after each and every dive with a thorough cleaning after the last one. I don't know if they still do this, but a prior owner put something in the water that not only inhibited plant growth but did strange things to...

Diver Died in Panama City FL

It's likely that we won't hear anything new on this incident for quite some time. Hazarding a guess, there's some serious investigation that has to be done by law enforcement and various and sundry other agencies, not the least of which will be an incident report filed with whatever agency the...

Climate change: tropical heatwave wipes out ocean forests off WA

Thanks--noticed this after posting so I also put up the second linked article on the same topic. Even though I could read the original article off of Google news, apparently pay walls are becoming a hard reality in other parts of the world.

Climate change: tropical heatwave wipes out ocean forests off WA

This terribly sad for me, as the diving off Western Australia is near and dear to me. It's the part of the world where I got my Scuba Instructor certification, and have many fond memories of the sites, sights, and people there. Full article can be seen at Nocookies Here's another, same topic...

    New DFW Texas Diver

CSSP? You should meet plenty of dive buddies there. If your local shop has a web site, get on that as well to meet potential dive partners.

Coral! Coral everywhere--and you should be seeing it as a diver!

Divers tend to go some really amazing places. The most common in the ocean involve the living systems that comprise reefs and the variety of life they support. There are so many places to go and see where these living masses demonstrate the variety of life we share the sea with. Learn more at...

    What is a dive snob?

Bob (Grateful Diver) said it best...a dive snob is very particular about who they dive with, as if diving were separated by country club memberships. What you describe I learned was called a warm-water wuss; no cold water for them, no how, no way. I'm sure others can give you additional terms...

Is it worth bringing all my own dive gear to Australia?

I spent three months in Western Australia, and used my own kit while there. What I did was simple. Arranged to have it shipped and insured to my destination, then did the same in reverse. Just make sure that you have someone to receive it at both ends you will be able to trust. Yes, it was an...

Can You See Me Now? Can You???

When divers get together and talk about sites, there's always one question that rears it's head. "What's the viz like?" It can be beautiful topside, warm, and fantastic in every other way, but it means nothing if you can't see the sights underwater. So, without further ado: WHERE TO GO TO...
