There are details in the following article I hadn't read before - evidently they recovered video showing all passengers below decks were awake during the fire (as opposed to dying from smoke inhalation in their sleep). The audio quotes are heartbreaking...
The article in the San Luis Obispo Tribune (link follows) gives details I hadn't read before. It appears the investigators recovered video taken by one of the passengers below decks, and the quotes from the audio are heartbreaking...
As far as I know, I haven't experienced dumping syndrome (nausea, pain, diarrhea after eating). The only times I've had the abdominal pain discussed here have been after diving on 2 occasions, and it didn't seem to be gastrointestinal in nature. It was excrutiatingly sore abdominal muscles...
Hi - My bottom line question is: is there a possible connection between the DCS I've experienced twice in the past year (but had never experienced before in over 20 years of diving), and my reactive hypoglycemia?
Long explanation below - apologies in advance, wanted to include all info that...
Great idea! I just sent Channel Island Expeditions a comment, via their "contact us" page, suggesting exactly that: please hold an open house and/or post an online video walking prospective liveaboard customers through all the improvements, so we can see them for ourselves. Here's their...
Yesterday I received the email below from Channel Islands Expeditions, indicating that they've acquired the Truth and Vision, sister boats to the Conception, have made numerous safety improvements, and are beginning liveaboard excursions to the Channel Islands. Here's the direct link to their...
Hi - this isn't an answer to your question, but is an amusing story about how I came into possession of the prescription mask dive mask that I used for 10 years.
Before I had Lasik, I was very nearsighted, such that by the time I was 40 my eyesight was 20/600 in one eye, and 20/800 in the other...
Final update: 1:50 pm PST 4-27-21. Xander has finally been picked up by a Medevac flight arranged and paid for by Generali, and is en route home from Cabo San Lucas to Denver, CO. It took a crazy number of phone calls and emails by the family over the course of days, during which there was...
No one is saying the bills shouldn't be paid. We're saying that DAN travel insurance needs to fulfill the terms of the policy and pay for services per the contract.
It sounds like you're more savvy than the average consumer when it comes to travel insurance. Most people would not have been that clued in about different underwriters, etc. Not everyone can be expert on everything. That doesn't signal a lack of "due diligence." Tim did read the DAN travel...
Thank you! They're still awaiting a medevac out of Baja. Looks like it's going to happen, but hasn't happened yet, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.
Apparently not, even though DAN issued the travel insurance policy, and we were relying on DAN's reputation for good service. That good service clearly does not extend from their dive insurance business to their travel insurance business.
Could you share what information you found with your...
There was a clause in the policy that says, "No out-of-pocket expenses." Also, my other two friends who have had medical emergencies covered by DAN dive insurance said that DAN handled all the arrangements and paid the costs. They (my friends) never had to pay anything.
New update 4-25-21 11:24 am: Generali has told Tim that they have arranged a flight for Xander, and they are no longer asking Tim to pre-pay for the flight. They also told Tim that they are processing a payment for the hospital (as the hospital had told Tim that they have never received...
Yes, this is DAN *travel insurance*, not dive insurance. We also had only ever heard positive stories about DAN's dive insurance. So the experience that Tim is having with Generali, evidently DAN's partner for the travel insurance, is shocking. And infuriating.
Update 4-24-21 10:41 am: Generali has referred Tim to a group called GGI to arrange for air evacuation of Xander, which theoretically will happen later today. It is still unclear as whether GGI is going to ask Tim for out-of-pocket payment upfront for the medical evacuation from Mexico back to...
We would *love* to get DAN management involved! But how do we do that?! We've tried every DAN phone number we can find. We'd *love* to get the attention of someone in a decision-making position at DAN, because we have to think that this is *not* how DAN intended for the travel insurance to...
