    How does one get certified?

Cheers for the info. Curious, what is the sticker-price on such training? PS: Gents included both men and women (Gentlemen/Gentlewomen... not in standard use but hey I was not intending to exclude anyone!)

    How does one get certified?

G'day gents, I was hoping to inquire with you as to how one trains into Public Safety Diving. I have been putting off my recreational cert for a while now, but with me being a Volunteer Firefighter, I'd be keen to get certified as a PSD in-order to expand my horizons. I am going to uni in the...

Ten Signs Your Dive-Buddy Hates You:

You may have heard this one before, but I found this in a newsletter and found it a bloody good laugh....: • He gives you the "wait there" sign and you're still on the boat. • The Coast Guard seems very interested in that bag of "talcum powder" your buddy loaned to you for your wetsuit. • She...

    Scuba Diving while at University?

I think its funny how they don't trust people with sharp objects anymore (I guess same reason you can't store an arsenal of assault rifles in your dorm... anymore...) I wonder if perhaps if I seek a single room, and get it approved, if I could perhaps get a waiver from admin for it... (that way...

    Scuba Diving while at University?

For some reason I think I would be turned down for single occupancy dorm (most are doubles and triples) if I listed as a reason "Need Fellow Divers"... Although I am sure I could get a psychiatrist to say that I have autism or something (had a few try already to tell me I am!) to qualify... but...

    Scuba Diving while at University?

Yes, it has been a while since I have posted on here, being that I am on working holiday... Anyway being that this is my final year of HS prior to University, I was wondering how you guys deal/dealt with scuba in uni? Apart from the obvious limitations of storage area in a garden hose, you...

    Need Snorkling Gear Suggestions

Ill be diving only in the summer, maybe into early fall. So I don't see using a dry suit, atleast until I get cert AOW and such.

    Need Snorkling Gear Suggestions

Crowley: Question for you in particular: Will 5mil hood/boots/gloves be sufficient for up here in the North Atlantic?

    Need Snorkling Gear Suggestions

Aye, thats the thing, some gear I want to go über cheap on such as the snorkel, whilst perhaps not as cheap on something like the mask (its good to be able to see!)

    Need Snorkling Gear Suggestions

I realised after re-reading something that may not have come across clear: $200+/- not including class. Now thats clarified....

    Need Snorkling Gear Suggestions

I am probably going to be signing up to take the course some time in this upcoming week. My wallet is already hurting... But thats beside the point. The fact of the matter is, I will need to get myself the basics for the class. That means I will need Mask, Fins, Boots, Gloves and Hood. But I...

    Excessive foaming at the mouth???

That seems like you should consult a GP regarding. The only thing I can think of is that the compressed air is over-oxygenating the saliva, causing a foam to appear. That said, it should be more like a slightly shaken soda than like a beer head foam..

    Soil Sampling

Actually Quero, you are right, it is both justifying the bill to myself (yes I am footing the bill lol!) and satisfying a curiosity. One of the things I have on my list of possible majors is that of Marine Biology. Since I intend to become a lawyer, specifically IP/Patent Law, I need a science...

    Soil Sampling

Lol Th, yea, come up with a 12 legged Sea Spider... Cmburch... Good to know lol! Thanks for the scientific term... makes my googling a bit easier, as google doesn't like 'undersea bottom' lol...

Aye, Sediment is a more appropriate term! Hey, cut me some slack, its not easy to type correctly at 3am! lol

    Soil Sampling

Being a science-y type guy, as I was thinking about dive logs and what kind of book I will probably want to get for dive logs (I intend to go with a lab book/log book, hard cover, book bound so it lasts) I began thinking about what information would be interesting to collect. Then I began...

    Dive Computer vs Dive Watch

I hope what I said wasn't misconstrued as not requiring a depth gauge! Yes, its nice to know how much water is above you lol.... When I say dive watch, I mean Walmart! lol.

    Dive Computer vs Dive Watch

I realise that I may seem idiotic in asking this, but is a dive compy really that much more useful than a dive watch when somebody is starting out? I realise that a dive compy can tell you everything from the temperature, to the rate of ascent, to your arsehole tightness, but for someone...

Why Reality TV Annoys Me: Axe Men

Sorry, I hope that I did not lead you to believe that I thought it was actually 100% real. IE) When the guy shoots at the Swamp guy with an arrow. My thought was, is that really the kind of stuff you want to profess on TV.. Then again the Owner of SnS is wanted by the state of...

Why Reality TV Annoys Me: Axe Men

I was watching the show Axe Men last evening, and I realised once again why reality television annoys me like no other. The example that I am particularly indicating is as follows: 14 y.o Kid is put onto SCUBA with no formal training (stated in previous episodes) into a river with the primary...
