    Diving in Nuclear Missile Silos

Hi gang, A few weeks ago a group of us dove in abandoned Titan I Missile Silos in Washington State. Very aesthetic dive into cold war history! Here's my video: https://vimeo.com/100983274

    Underwater video music whine

Making VO sound intelligent, be entertaining and suit the mood can be very difficult. We don't all have voices like Morgan Freeman or David Attenborough. And IMHO, very few people can write a script as well as they think they can. Music is easier - you have beats to edit to - and has greater...

    Using white balance reference cards

Underwater white balance is my nemesis. What I've learned so far is that it's far better to get white balance sorted out in camera - you can always tweak levels later in production. But to try to do it all in production is generally a mess. Get it right in camera first, and reset white...

    Background music

In reference to what ddprocter says above, Vimeo does care. when you upload, you click a button saying that you own the rights to everything in the video - that includes the music. If its for private use among friends, I'm sure nobody really cares, but if you want to submit to a festival or...

Whom should I choose? How do I choose?

We're both comfortable with 130'. Both comfortable with currents. Neither of us dive deco or mixed gases (beyond Nitrox). My main interest in diving is videography, so I typically look for colourful, lively, aesthetic wrecks - big or small. Historic wrecks are very cool. Aside from wrecks...

Whom should I choose? How do I choose?

Interesting. Thanks Dumpster Diver. I'm not set on the Keys. I think my buddy might be. I'm up for wrecks wherever they are. I'll do some investigating in the Palm Beach area. Can you suggest some must-see dives in the region?

Whom should I choose? How do I choose?

I do realize the scope of this question... I hope to narrow down the near endless options the Keys offer. I'm looking at coming to the Keys in June 2014 for a week. I want to dive lots. My buddy and I are experienced and we like wrecks. Deep wrecks, shallow wrecks, big wrecks, small wrecks...

Welcome to Alberta Underwater Council forum

Hi Pamela, There are people diving in Lake Minnewanka (Banff) every weekend during a normal summer. As the time gets closer check out the AquaSport Scuba Centre or TheDiveShop groups on Facebook. If you post there I'm sure you'll find a buddy who knows the sites and can show you around.

    Dome Ports for Video

This is good. I'm learning stuff. The Sony has a focal range of 26mm - 260mm (16:9), slightly less in 4:3. By far I shoot more wide angle than macro. I'm not always in clear water, so cutting my distance to subject is the desired goal of the dome port purchase. My Sony does focus close, and...

    Dome Ports for Video

They provide a flat port (what I have currently), a 60* dome and a 90* dome. No other options on the website.

    Dome Ports for Video

I have a Sony HDR-PJ710V in a Mangrove MVHS-L. I currently have a flat port and I find I have to put too much water between the subject and myself in order to get a wide enough shot. I want to get closer to my subject while getting a wider shot at the same time. Add-on W/A lenses are not an...

    Dome Ports for Video

Hi gang, I have a general question re: dome ports. I gather that the reason to use a dome rather than flat port in u/w imaging is to widen your angle and cut your physical distance to the subject. Is that about right? If my cam/housing with a flat port currently has no vignetting, how can I...

    Summer Travel

Thanks, everybody, for the great suggestions. I researched each one and the trip I've chosen works well for a solo traveller. I just booked a live-aboard trip in the Eastern Caribbean for a week. Again, thanks for your suggestions!

    Summer Travel

Thanks again Robin. The Channel Islands are certainly not out of the running, but the fact that I'm travelling solo is wreaking a bit of havoc there, it seems... Seems less of an issue at some other locations. I've been to Coz a few times. Fantastic! Looking for something different now...

    Summer Travel

Thanks Steve. I'll check out those links as well. I've found getting to parts of the Caribbean from my part of Canada can be quite expensive and time consuming. (a notable exception is the Riviera Maya!) I've heard good things about Bermuda as well. ---------- Post added May 24th, 2013 at...

    Summer Travel

Would you recommend a particular dive charter company? Have you done live-aboards on your trips? Vis is always variable of course, but I'm being told it is better at Catalina than the northern Channel Islands. Is that your experience as well?

Thanks Robin. The Channel Islands are definitely on the list! I'll research that. I love bull kelp and cold doesn't scare me. One of my regular dives is a spring (4*C / 39*F). Nice images!

    Summer Travel

Hi, I'd like to start a discussion to open up possibilities and see where it leads... The basis of my query is that there is no substitute for local knowledge. I have some time off in August and am looking for a dive destination. It can be cold/warm/fresh/salt/inland or coastal/near or far...
