    Post-dive regulator cleaning

Had a discussion with dive buddy (well, as soon as he starts diving again...) regarding cleaning regulators after diving. One of us was of the opinion that the first stage never get submerged unless it is under pressure, so just hose it off; the other was of the opinion that, so long as the cap...

    Dive Around The Clock

Dive Around the Clock is an annual fundraiser for cancer research at Seattle Children's Hospital where there are divers in the water for 24 consecutive hours (in 30 minute shifts). I decided to participate this year and I want your donation. Please read up on it and if you decide to donate, you...

    Stolen weights

In Everett, WA. After Thursday evening's night dive, I accidentally left my car unlocked and it got prowled. Only things taken were a set of keys that fit the locks associated with my trailer and an Akona weight bag with about 45# of hard weights. The 2# Sea Pearl weights all have the initials...

    Decompression algorithm choice

I just bought an Oceanic VT-4.0; my usual dive buddy uses an Atomic Cobalt with your exclusive algorithm. Which decompression algorithm setting (PELAGIC DSAT* or PELAGIC Z+) would be a better starting point to get our dive profiles in sync?

    Choosing an algorithm

I just bought an Oceanic VT-4.0 computer, my current puck will now be my BU. My usual dive buddy uses an Atomic Cobalt, which uses "Recreational RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubble Model) created exclusively for Atomic Aquatics". Of the two Oceanic decompression algorithms, "PELAGIC DSAT*...

P-valve, balanced vs unbalanced - discuss

Thinking ahead to getting a drysuit and a P-valve will be included. Advantages/disadvantages of either? Personal preferences? I've been described as "having half a bladder". When on driving vacations with wife, I'm the one who needs to stop at the rest areas. I had a box of adult undergarments...

    Permanent dive float

We have had a buoy/float moored above the deep dive site at the Mukilteo, WA T-Dock. A couple of months ago it sank - not a lot of floatation to start with and a massive mussel colony will do that. I decided to make one and installed it today. I used an old McCreary oval track slick I had on...

    Las Vegas Nevada

I'm visiting for the work week of Monday the 8th and since my wife just decided she's not going to go, I'll have lots of free time. Any suggestions on shops/clubs/etc?

Computers with Macintosh software from the manufacturer?

So far, what I've been able to find is the Scubapro/Uwatec line. Others don't have Mac s/w from the manufacturer, which makes things like firmware updates either a pain or impossible w/out using a Windows PC. And no, I have no interest in Parallels or other emulation environments. If a...

    Scuba gear webbing

This is something that has annoyed me to a certain level since I first started diving back in the Ford administration. Why in the Many Names of Gods is essentially all the webbing in scuba resin impregnated?

Pinnacle Tempo 7mm vs Scubapro Nova Scotia 6.5mm?

Main diving will be Puget Sound area. I don't get cold easily, so semi-dry wins over dry for me for simplicity as well as cost issues.

Crusty old diver returning to the sea

I've been out of diving for about 30 years. Some friends are getting back into it so I decided to join them here in Puget Sound. The equipment has changed so much in the last 3 decades that I decided to just start over; my PADI Open Water Diver class starts tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it!
