It seems like the OP is saying that after training he wouldn't be a good tech diver? You can say the same about OW training, not everyone is a good diver after they finish. And even if he just continued to rec dive, I don't feel that would prepare him to be a tech diver, that's why you take...

I had a problem with this but it's only with a snorkel. But with a regulator it's no problem.

I sat on the bottom of my pool with a snorkel for 30minutes straight if that counts ;)

I always prefer people say what the feel rather than not saying it. Thanks for the insight, I'll have to consider it when the time comes to decide.

Thanks, I'm actually considering joining the navy as a diver, or networking. I've always loved the sea, and interested in being under water for long periods, so thought I'd try diving before joining in a year. Maybe I can make up my mind then.
