I live and dive on the Panama City Beach area and hardly see any sharks when diving (I try and dive at least one day a week). If I do see a shark it is usually a brief glimpse as it swims by. If you're diving with Diver's Den this weekend then you are in great hands with Carlos the dive master...
A good couple of options would be the Mares Avant Quatro Plus or the Mares Power Plana. I like the first ones and I have the second ones. The power plana are a rubber fin with a large foot pocket. Mainly for drysuit use but may suit your needs.
Another great way I found helpful in choosing dive gear was the PADI equipment specialty course. I got a great idea, for example aout the difference between piston and diaphragm regs.
Dry suit class and diving would be thoughts as well. It is certainly a skill that needs to be mastered and practiced. Rescue can be completed anywhere with a good instructor- of course.
I generally carry the reel in my hand. However I've used a 4ft piece of cord with a snap at one end attached to my bcd. The other end of the cord has a small float attached. The flag reel is attached close to the float. This means that the reel can be left floating above and behind you out...
Diving the St Andrews State Park Jetties between Christmas and New Year 2013 when a large Gulf Sturgen swam past. Unfortunately could get my camera up quick enough to shoot it.
19 Cuft Pony bottl, spare mask, SMB/ finger spool, lift bag and two cutting devices. Other stuff I take with me in my dive bag include; spare "o" rings, lp inflater hose, 2nd stage and lubricant grease.
I would consider the definition of advanced diver to contain elements of training and experience. For training (and I only have experience with PADI) I would suggest that an advanced diver would be at a minimum a Rescue diver and have a number of specialties completed (navigation, nitrox, O2...
No problem Rich. For some reason they work for me and my trim. You may need to look at the rest of your setup to accomplish what you want. I've slung a 19Cuft pony under my right arm and have some other gear clipped to the left hand "d" ring and the video I've seen of my diving position seems to...
I do dive solo most of the time. I used the information on the solo forum to gain an understanding of th requirements. After that it was a case of buying a 19ft pony bottle, the spare mask, etc. I dive this way because I can do my on thing.
I've not been diving long, 4 years and 100+ dives. Have I regrets on some of the dive kit I've bought, absoilutely. The key thing is to learn from the good bits and the not so good bits. Would I have bought a jacket BCD? No I would have bought some form of back inflate BC. I think one of the...
Very easy to do. Just be careful not to damage the threads. If the hose becomes tight when you're screwing it on, stop and start again. Across threaded hose could cost you a lot more than the hose you've bought.
A few different types of boats operate out of Panama City. Fl. Cost is around $80 for a 2 tank in shore dive up to around $120 for either an offshore or 3 tank dive. If I'm not diving with friends on their boats I dive with Divers Den. They have a boat that will take 11 divers with two tanks...
Great story. Reminded me a little of my first dives in the Fifth of Forth using a dry suit. Especially as the week before I was diving in my local waters of North Florida in 85F water.
