The only reasons you would need to switch your diluent are if you used it all up or if you went deeper than your diluent would allow. With the exception of an equipment failure causing a loss of your diluent, both would be a failure of dove planning IMO.

Kiss units use one of your bailout cylinders as a diluent supply. At 190’ he should have had either a normoxic or hypoxic mix for his diluent to allow him to lower his PO2 to a safe level. i haven’t seen what it actually was but it sounds like it was something higher.
