Posts like this are why I didn't buy DSS. There is never a good reason to talk to someone like this. Some people do care about where they spend their money.
The prices will probably go down. The workers filling the new jobs created will have more disposable income. Many will start SCUBA diving, and buy new equipment and tanks. Manufactures can lower their margins because of the increase in volume. Of course the freight charges will offset the...
I found a pair of 72's at a garage sale a couple of years ago. The owner bought them new in 1968, doubled them up, and had them filled. They sat unused since. There was 1800 psi in them when I got them. I tested the air with my new at the time cootwo, and found 20ppm CO. You hippies really...
The Bull Shark dives in Playa are still happening in January. The C-56 wreck in Morelos is also a dive I've enjoyed, although the port is more likely to be closed than open in January.
Aquaworld seems to get away with charging that much because they are at a lot of resorts, and are a common name in Cancun. That price is 50% higher than the operation my wife and I use when we are there.
Did you get the recall notice? My LDS sends me all SCUBA related equipment recall notices, and they don't even carry Aqualung. I would recommend to anyone who does not get annual inspections/servicing of their regs to keep up on potential recalls. I very much like my LDS, and they also know...
I have read about it.
Regulator Rubbish: Dive Gear Makers Should Get Back to Basics | Halstead
Here is a quote from the linked article in case someone doesn't want to read it all.
"I did not care for regulators that were not “fail safe”, that is, no matter how they failed you should still be...
My first personal compressor was found on craigslist. It did not need much work, but ended up being too small for what I ended up needing/wanting. Compressor #2 was a government surplus Rix that was cheap, but needed some work/parts to get running/pumping. I was very patient in search of the...
No test pressure stamp. I got the model number from the serial number stamped on the cylinder so I could get the REE value from Norris. It was manufactured to the 6000 psi specs, but stamped with a 5,000+. It was originally built for the USA military, so they may have different standards than...
The working pressures on cylinders make sense if you do the math...
DOT Wall Stress Calculations: S = P(1.3D^2 + 0.4d^2)/(D^2 - d^2) This is the 3AA spec
S = maximum wall stress (psi)
P = Test pressure (psi)
D = Outside diameter (inch)
d = Inside diameter (inch)
This is with my bank...
My 14 year old son did 2 discover dives last Christmas in Cancun. He was wearing a 3 mil shorty, and a rental Aqualung BCD that was not weight integrated. He forgot to put on his weight belt on the second dive, and was slightly negative at dives end with 500 psi in an al 80. He was 5'9", 110...
How many years are the cylinders in question good for? Will you automatically toss them out after 15 years, or is it a personal preference based on a visual inspection?
I've picked up more than a couple of lp72's from garage sales over the last couple of years. One set was doubled up and last filled sometime around 1965, and had 1500psi still in it. Fortunately (for me) is has 20ppm of CO. I have another single lp72 that had 1200psi when I got it. That one...
I don't know about the filters. The truck I drive, with the compressor you linked, does not need clean air for the brakes to work. I would suggest searching for a Thomas Industries "OIL FREE" compressor if you are intent on the DIY route. Google and Youtube have some creative ideas...
Read through this. http://www.bendixvrc.com/itemdisplay.asp?documentid=4384
To answer a couple of your questions...
It is not an oil less compressor, and the air would not be safe to breath without filtering it first.
This compressor has a governor that will not over-pressure, or dead head the...
