    Post your last gear purchase

Spent $50 on new spring straps from the LDS to put on the $31 Jet Fins I got on ebay a few days ago. I think it was about $10 to ship those two blocks of cement.

    How to dive in three's

My two buddies and I typically all dive together, sometimes we add one more friend. We all ride motorcycles off road together too and we carry out diving as a threesome or the foursome just as we would when riding. We all discuss and agree to the dive/ride plan and objective, and pick the...

    crescent bay and shaws cove

The last time we dived it, we went right off the description on the map, blue roof between rocks, 30 deg to the stairs, then dropped to 45', yeah!!! Once at the bottom and everybody gave the ok, our chosen lead for the dive looked at his Capt. Jack Sparrow compass and headed us straight towards...

    crescent bay and shaws cove

That's what you get when you trust the Internets for your mapping and guidance. Your pic is much clearer, thanks.

    crescent bay and shaws cove

We always seem to have better dives from Cresent Bay North compared to the South side. A little deeper, always seems better sights. You can spend more than an hour at 30' with plenty to explore. Get a refill and do a second dive and see all new stuff. Swim the reef back in on your left and...

Diver found missing in Laguna's Shaw's Cove

We dived there Sunday, and have numerous times in the past. According to Wendy's description earlier, it would seem as though the diver surfaced somewhere in the middle of the many urchin covered trenches and rock outcropping shallower areas. Perhaps even in the middle of the "crevice". I...

    Help for a nose breather?

When I have problems with the mask sealing, and pay any attention, it's generally due to me exhaling through my nose. So for a while I pay attention to that and try to remember to stop, then a little while later, it happens all over again.

    Tribolube

Ok, I get it, it's not for some new fangled special sealing requirement, it's an unsealing helper. ;) i would have sent you yet another email Jim, or phone call, but as I did not see this question asked and answered on the board, I thought maybe someone else may have the same question.

    Tribolube

Why is Tribolube only suggested when using the bottom port of the first stage but not necessarily any of the others?

    Shore diving - fins

I hand made these for me and my buddies. You can buy them for about $15, or make them for $18 each. lol I had not cut and added the second clip on this one yet. One longer strap for the fins, shorter one for the mask. They work great! I wanted yellow, I think most pre-fab one's are black...

    Dropped weight belt

No, you are not the only one. Thinking like this from a credentialed instructor would have me thinking about getting a new one. :shakehead:

Do you dive with a knife? How about a big knife?

When I first began diving in the early 80's, every guy in my OW class bought their basic gear, mask, snorkel, fins, boots, BFK. You know, the normal manly basic gear. Got out of diving in the late 80's, came back last year with a few friends who got certified the year before, 100 dives each...

Does anyone still believe in "Support Your LDS"?

I’d like to support the closest LDS to my house, but as someone here had so eloquently categorized a person they were dealing with, the owner is a douche waffle. The actual closest “scuba” shop to my home is a Sport Chalet, I do not consider them a LDS. I get fills there and...

    Things That Almost Bit You

Not sure why, but I frequently wiggle my finger in front of male Sheephead to see if they will bite. A rather large one, not the really big one however, took me up on that offer at the Avalon Dive Park recently. He bit down halfway down my wiggling index finger. Not a really hard bite, then...

    Catalina diving in spring/summer 5mm or 7mm

About a month ago there was a guy diving Laguna in swim trunks and a rash guard. WTF! And he was not in and out, he did a full dive out and around the reef. WTF!! WTF!!!

On behalf of service techs everywhere

My two dive buddies went to Bonaire last year. They are both chummers, one generally when underwater, the other on the surface, but when they catch a glimpse of the other, they will both blow. Ah, togetherness. First dive of that trip, surface chummer loads his regulator, jambs it up. He...

    New GoPro Black

My new GoPro Black was just dropped off by UPS. When my wife calms down I'll set it up. Or when she goes to sleep, whichever happens first.

At what temp is it considered cold water diving?

I'm in Los Angeles, and so far I have never dived anywhere else, the water temp pretty much is from low 50's to low 60's at recreational depth's. At what temperature is it considered "cold water" diving? I'm sure many would think low 50's is cold, but then there are people diving below ice and...

    Scuba Snopes

At Ventura Harbor, Andria's Seafood is better than Brophy Bros Seafood. Eeeeewwwwww, Andria's could kill you!! Should have listed to Capt. Ted instead of the fools at Ventura Dive and Sport. Ewwwwww!!!! I just threw up in my mouth a little thinking about it.

trouble recovering bc from pool bottom

PADI didn't have you do this in 82, but the guy that got me into diving had me do it before that. He tied everything in knots and there it sat on he bottom on the pool. I think it's a good drill for dealing with stress of having to deal with multiple equipment issues while underwater, and like...
