Well done - and lucky you! You found critters one doesn't usually see snorkeling (turtle, spotted drum) Thanks for posting.

Snorkling at Occidental Cozumel vs Allegro

I would consider the Westin up north for a mix of both beach and good snorkeling. It's not flat sandy beach you walk for miles, but sand and some rock you can walk & explore, carrying your sandals for the rocky part.

A few of my currently favorite inexpensive (but tasty) food places in Cozumel:

Who's Phil? LOL... You mean Pibil? Thanks for the tip.

    Dan Insurance

Not about DAN, but re medical coverage. Several years ago my husband got sick on one trip and ended up at Clinica San Miguel in a hospital bed for several days. Thankfully he was eventually OK, but to be discharged you have to pay the bill... in his case around $5K. All you can do is pull out...

    Restaurant Finds?

The Oaxacan place is called Rusti.co and is on Salas between 15 & 20.

    Restaurant Finds?

My local friend, Josefina, took us to a Oaxacan food restaurant on Salas near 15 (?). Excellent mole. They also have a pool table that is comically uneven, but fun to play.

Question Tell me about Shore Diving at Hotel Barracuda

Re: staying at the Barracuda. Please let us know if they have updated the AC in their rooms. I stayed there several years ago & after my experience said Never Again. Location is great, ocean front + in town. BUT they had the very old style AC units that roar like an aircraft engine when on. And...

    Mega vs Chedraui

If you can, find time to visit the old Mercado back a few blocks @ Salas & 20. Very lively, especially in the morning. Extremely fresh food sold by local people.

    Cozumel in early September ?

It's my latest favorite time to visit. Prices are lower due to it being low season, less people around. Water is warm, feels like silk. It can get overcast + some rain showers but that can be a relief from the blazing sun... it doesn't take away from the warmth. I definitely pack mosquito...

advice wanted re. purchasing property in Cozumel

Though I don't own, I know people who do in Cozumel. The gist of their experiences below. Several of these points have been mentioned above. 1, You always have to come up with the total price to buy - no loans unless there is owner financing. 2. No title insurance. Find a reputable Realtor...

Fiesta Americana vs Hotel Cozumel All Inclusive

I was hoping you'd go this way - just for having a different experience. Personally over the years I've liked trying different places to stay & eat while visiting. Since you said you'd have a car, the location south of town shouldn't be an issue for going into town to eat etc...

Are reef hooks allowed in Cozumel?

Several fellow divers, obviously experienced & vets of Cozumel diving, had the muck or poker stick on my last trip - Always used for pointing at things or stuck in the SAND to stabilize for a photo or wait your turn to see a tiny creature. Nothing was said about them being prohibited. Looked...

Trip Report Cozumel diving report December 2022

Re your 'lots of fireworms this trip" remark. I notice that too, every trip there seems to be one marine species that dominates my vision on dives. For me this Sept it was scads of Blue Chromis. Another trip it was Sharp Nose Puffers. These are beyond the schools of grunts etc... Sounds like you...

Last minute trip plans - condo or villa rental?

I looked on Airbnb and Peninsula Grand has a 3 bedroom open on your dates. Not cheap...$454/night + fees I'm sure. But waterfront! Good luck

    Local News

Friend of a friend told me that's why Chad & Clara sold Wet Wendy's & Thirsty Cougar and got the hell out. They were threatened with violence to their kids. Personally I've never felt threatened as a visiting tourist, but it's probably a whole different ball game when you live here & have...

    Trip Report 11/9 – 11/15 Presidente & Jungle Divers

Thanks for the report & pix. Spending conservatively for traveling is the only way I can swing it. El Presidente is way out of my league $$ wise, but entertaining to read what it's like. I've learned, after experiencing too many sacks of sand, I HAVE TO bring my own pillow when traveling. I...

Trip Report El cantil and Aldora

Check out Playa Azul or the Westin up north. Waterfront, some sandy beach, good pool and snorkeling. My preference is a condo as I like making my own coffee & having a frig for beer and some food.
