Travel Logistics: Jakarta and Sorong in October

Garuda changed our late September flight to the next day from CGK to SOR which of course will not work because we will miss our transfer. We had to rebook on Batik. For some reason, booking direct with Batik, they seem to like MasterCard, but not Visa or Amex. Go figure.

Raja Ampat Resort / Land Based Dive Options / Recommendations

I tried to look at possible land-based add-ons to my Misool trip in late September (postponed from 2020). I could not find availability. I even looked at Lembeh as an add-on, but the logistics and limited availability did not work out. Best of luck to you.

    Fiji 2021

I dove with Julie for a week the first time I went to Fiji. Didn't stay at Nakia, but highly recommend Julie. She is great.

Raja Ampat - Liveaboard or Land Based?

We did Misool in 2017. My partner is not a diver and he loved it there. We were supposed to be back there in December, along with a stay in another resort in Raja. Everything rescheduled to 2022. It would be helpful if you could list your budget. I suspect things may be filling up quite fast as...

Seeking advice regarding Zeagle Zena BC

I have this BCD, I'm 5'3" and fluctuate between 125-130. This was my first back inflate BCD. The first dive trip I went on with it, the air kept going to one side of the BCD. I had to make sure I inflated in an upright position, as suggested above, so the air didn't get trapped. It took about...

Suggestions/critiques of my trip to Ile de pins/Port Vila/Fiji wanted

Just back from Vanuatu, what a great place to visit! Of all the three places we went, we thought we would like Eratap the best--not true. I honestly would skip it and had straight to Santo. The location of Eratap is lovely, the people are nice, but the price of the room (something like...

Suggestions/critiques of my trip to Ile de pins/Port Vila/Fiji wanted

I'll be in Vanuatu next month, first stop Eratap, then White Grass on Tanna, and ending on Ratua in Santo. I'll be diving all three locations, and can give you more information then. Eratap looks beautiful and I chose it for my non-diving partner, who will be sitting on the beach while I'm off...

Off Topic - Airline and Credit Card Recommendations?

I use the Amex Plat and Chase Reserve. I fly out of SFO, which makes the Amex Centurion lounge there such a nice benefit to have. Both cards have priority pass, and I have not looked up to see if there is a difference between them. The reserve I use for most of my purchases to rack up the points.

Top warm water diving locations for Octopus?

I saw lots of them in Lembeh. Coconut, long arm, starry night, hairy, and blue ring.

    Long Boat Rides Of Palau

I travel with my non-diving partner so land-based is pretty much my only option. We went to Palau a few years back, I loved the long boat ride. I don't really get seasick though, so that might be a consideration if you are prone to it.

    Tahiti and/or Bora Bora?

You can get by with English at resorts, but best if you know French. Tahiti and Bora Bora are not great for diving. Rangiroa and Fakarava, in the Tuamotus, are your best bet. I've only been to Rangiroa, so can't comment on Fakarava. Rangiroa was a thrill. Bora Bora is beautiful and I've been...

Seeking October Dive Trip to Palau, Philippines, Fiji, Tahiti

Have you looked into the flights from the US to Palau? I loved Palau, but we had to go SFO>HNL>Guam>Palau. The travel time was a pain. I've been to all the destinations you listed--French Polynesia I've been to three times, and unless you go to Rangiroa or Fakarava, don't count on the diving...

French Polynesia: time to spend in Fakarava and Rangiroa

The hotels in Papaete are not great. Did a day room once, and opted never to do it again. We leave our luggage checked at the airport, then get a car, drive around the island and always try to hit the food trucks when we can. The food trucks are great, cheap and delicious, and you can people...

Raja Ampat Land Based Rooms Less Buggy?

It depends on the proximity of the rooms near flora I think. If closer to the jungle, there will be more bugs. When we went to Misool Resort, we stayed in both over the water and the beach side. Over the water had less bugs. The bugs weren't too bad at the beach one, but the original room we...

Hi :))))) New to this board but not to diving. Would love some help -Fiji

I was in Qamea last year and stayed in Taveuni in 2015 where I dove with Taveuni Ocean Sports. Qamea's dive sites are pretty and easy. I got to dive in really small groups, often just me and the guide, and took my time to take photos. The best dive site we did at Qamea was Swirly Coconut and...

Women and everything being heavy in scuba diving

Do you do a grappling sport (the meeting on the mat part is what led me to ask)? I train and compete in Brazilian jiujitsu. I also lift weights. I'm pretty athletic, but I still have a hard time lugging all the equipment needed to dive in cold Monterey water from the car to shore dive, which is...
