    Battery Life for the E-M5

I've never run out of the batteries yet and always use the on-camera flash set at 1/64 power. Last photo dives were more than four hours underwater + 220 shots and battery still showed green (and i think it was 2 green bars at the end). Only use Olympus batteries (purchased from authorised dealers).

Wet Wide Angle Lenses don't work with 4/3 or DSLR Systems, Example Pictures

Unfortunately, above-water performance tells you little about below-water performance. In fact, it's desirable for the edges of the image to be soft or very soft above water.

If you only had 2 ports for your Nauticam

The 4.33" (36132) dome port is the port for the 8mm Panasonic fisheye, also works with the Olympus 12mm. The 4" wide-angle port (aka 4" semi-dome, 36137) is the port for the 9-18mm (it doesn't work with the 8mm), but it also works with a couple of the 14-42mm lenses and the 12-50mm lens. The...

thinking about getting a WiFi card for the EM-5

I have an Eye-Fi 8GB Pro card. It works as advertised, transferring RAW images and video directly to my laptop. I haven't seen any indication of problems, except for one which is not mentioned. If i leave the card in my camera, i invariably find my battery is dead sometime later (even if the...

Power Zoom on the 12-50mm Lens Adjustment and Control Issues

My guess is that in step 2 of the gear installation guide, that either it wasn't installed tight enough onto the lens and is slipping, or that the gear wasn't aligned exactly as shown with the lens. It's possibly somewhere else, but this would seem to be the most likely problem that could cause...

    OM-D rig step by step

Nice images Guy! Did you get a chance to shoot with the 60mm in the 12-50mm port?

    OM-D rig step by step

Olympus 12-50mm macro image width (long edge) at closest focus underwater (flat port): Macro: 34mm (approx. working distance 68mm) 12mm: 184mm (approx. working distance 87mm) 50mm: 84mm (approx. working distance 305mm)

    OM-D rig step by step

WIth the Nauticam port and gear for the 12-50mm, there's a knob on the port that you turn to switch between macro and zoom underwater. It's a very positive and very quick to switch between macro and zoom. The knob on the left hand side of the housing is used to zoom in and out when not in macro...

    OM-D rig step by step

Here's a better port chart: http://www.nauticam-canaryislands.com/pdf/nauticam_GF2_GF3_EPL2_EPL3_port_system.pdf I agree that the 12-50mm with its gear and port is just amazingly useful underwater.

    OM-D Rig, Its HEEEEEEERRRRREEEEEE (almost)

Many thanks for all the details Guy. I'll definitely be adding a 45 degree viewfinder to my rig.

    UFL-3 Strobe?

I'm really quite interested in the UFL's ability to sync up to 1/4000 with the OM-D, it's just the 2 AA battery design that makes me hesitate really from pushing the buy button...

    OM-D Rig, Its HEEEEEEERRRRREEEEEE (almost)

Hi Guy, Does the 45 degree viewfinder make it difficult to see the back LCD display? I don't spend a lot of time looking at the back display, since almost everything is visible through the viewfinder, but that 45 degree viewfinder looks quite big. Thanks!

    UFL-3 Strobe?

Any chance we'll see a new strobe from Olympus, perhaps based on the new FL-600R? The major weakness of the current UFL-2 seems to be its 2 AA battery design (based on the FL-36), leading to long recycle times.

    Best zoom available

Also you could drop your 60mm macro into the 12-50mm Nauticam port. No access to the focus limiting switch (but please Nauticam, provide a gear that gives us access to the focus limiter on the 60mm in the 12-50mm port!) Re-using ports saves $$, weight, space... A radical alternative is the 4"...

terrible reflection into 4" NAUTICAM dome with 9-18mm and OM-D

I see similar (though vastly lens intrusive) problems with the Panasonic 8mm in the 4.33" dome (the 8mm doesn't have any writing on the front of the lens, but the permanent hood can cause concentric circle reflections). Here's one solution: theflyphoto.com - Photography by Matt Jones | Secret...

Olympus 60mm macro lens is out!

Note that 1:1 only occurs at exactly one distance, and so focus for 1:1 must be at that one distance. This occurs with all macro lenses. With the 60mm you have to lock the focus when selecting 1:1 (either by switching to MF before selecting 1:1 or by holding down the shutter half way before...

Lens Choice for Surface Photography for OM-D E-M5 Camera

I'm using a borrowed Panasonic 14-140mm now, but find it too large, too heavy and too slow (large aperture) to be a great general-pupose lens. Image quality is just OK even though it's probably the best superzoom made for any camera system. And given you'll already own the 12-50mm i wouldn't own...

Hi, At 0.8ft you are close to 25cm which is well beyond infinity. Definitely use 0.5ft (0.15m); it's marked on the lens and at f/8 (or f/11) everything from exceptionally close to infinity should look great! But nice pics anyway! -Bob
