New Apple Watch is a dive computer

Right. It's in the speaker grill holes. It plays a series of high pitched sounds to clear it out. It's not intrusion into any place it's not designed to be

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

Well, I think that's just a misprint in that article. If you look at this video Apple Event at 59:30 is where this feature of the iPhone 14 is described. Nothing like this mentioned in the watch discussion at the beginning of the event. Perhaps this mode can be triggered from a watch, but...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

I meant "available" but actually it's very clear it's NOT available on the watch. I have no doubt something like that would be useful if it could be packed into the watch body. You might have to take the watch off to get the range of motion needed to track a satellite, though. The way I...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

Highly doubt it. If you watched the video on how the iPhone does this, you have to point the iPhone at a satellite and track it with the phone for a couple of minutes to get your message through. This is not a panic button you just push and wait for help to arrive.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

It doesn't do it with it's own sensors, although there have been many rumors Apple is working on this. But I think it (and earlier versions) may be able to connect with a bluetooth glucose monitor (like this...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

Do you know which model? If I recall correctly, the first few weren’t even suitable for swimming. And I could imagine that as they get older the seals degrade.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

Well, that's because somehow for a watch or other electronics 100M water resistant apparently doesn't mean resistant to 100 meters of water. The normal Apple Watch is "50M" resistant and they say not to take it diving. I know people who do and it seems fine, but they don't guarantee it. They...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

It certainly seemed to work within the limits of what I could try. I started the tracker, left the phone in my car, and then did a shore dive. When I came back, I downloaded from my Perdix to the phone, viewed the dive and then hit the map icon (as you can see). You get this dialog. However, it...

Question Pelagic Pressure Systems or Shearwater (the Swift) transmitter failures

How about failed because it was knocked hard enough on the side of a boat to split it open? I keep mine on a 9” hose now.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

This statement only makes sense for those who, despite all evidence, keep treating this new device as only a dive computer. I owned a $300 camera that took better photos than any $700 phone I've ever owned. I guess I was "taken" buying that phone since it doesn't outperform a cheaper camera.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

I've always been a desktop-downloader, but this is what I was reading: MacDive Help - Location/Site Tracking which, if it works, will move me to a phone-downloader. With any luck, I will get to try it tomorrow.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

I was just looking at the docs for this and if you have the time set well on the computer, I thought it was supposed to do this automatically or at least ask you to confirm.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

As "one of those people" let me weigh back in. I bought a Perdix AI because of the AI and the color screen. Full stop. I am a recreational diver, have stepped BACK from thinking I might do some sort of tech training some day. But I came from an Oceanic VT3 and loved the AI but hated the display...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

Seconded. I haven't emailed him more than a few times, but it's always great support. I think the last request I made was "I want to cut and paste GPS coordinates from Lightroom into MacDive and have them accepted" (yes, I'm one of those data-fetishists). Two days later it was in a release.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

If you look at where apps are going, people really are gravitating towards the free+subscription model vs. the pay up front model. Apps that have a up front purchase prices don't attract many people. So if you don't like this, you can blame the companies that do it, or you can more accurately...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

The AW doesn‘t have pins, it has a slide in system. Hard to explain. But I guess you could make a redundant strap if you send material under the watch but to the side of the sensors. I once found a dive watch with a nato strap while diving. I guess they hadn‘t buckled it right.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

At the risk of beating @Bigbella 's horse.... Honestly they will likely never do that and probably don't care. I don't think Apple gives a second thought to whether I switch from my Perdix or you switch from whatever you use. The market they are going after with this small hardware upgrade to...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

I think you are conflating disruptive with pushing the technological envelope. Technologically, the first iPhone wasn't all that advanced. As far as I can tell, the only technological advance it brought was multi-touch. Palm had been producing hybrid PDA-phones for years with color screens and...

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

It’s what you said and I missed. They don’t allow any web rendering on iOS except their own. Other browsers have to use Apple’s rendering code.

New Apple Watch is a dive computer

BTW, looking at the oceanic video above and how you start the app or set it to auto-start on submersion…. It looks to me like it’s set to allow other apps where oceanic is a choice. Now Will other apps have to advertise themselves as dive computer apps or can you launch Instagram on...
