    Weird Narcosis Experience?

I know this is an old post but I wanted to chime in my personal experience being narced with less than 60 dives OW on air. The dive OP combined advanced divers and Ow divers (me) on this dive. The reef was 95ft at most points and they told us (OW) to hang above it. Well, I was following the...

    Is this nitrogen narcosis?

Well, this won’t answer the question re Nitrox reducing post-dive fatigue,I think it is kind of interesting... I can say that I never experienced post-dive fatigue and I also never used Nitrox. (Did not get the cert). I drove 3.5 hours to the dive site, and went on the first a.m. boat (left...

    My Wifes IPE in Cozumel

I do not dive like I used to. This post, and the subsequent comments makes me realize “you don’t know what you don’t know.” I was a long distance runner and, during a drift dive a few years back, my buddy and I were blown off a reef due to a very long descent. (She had equalization...

The eyes roll back to protect their eyes from danger or injury. The aggression is on the part of the diver.

    Diver missing in the Bahamas

I am not going to contribute more the this thread but really felt the need to post a link to a youtube video on an Abernathy dive whereby a diver, our of our camera lens, continues to "pet" the sharks. The gut-wrenching thing is when you see the sharks reaction- eye-rolling to signify...

I should have been more clear. Exploiting sharks- baiting them to you for a photo and bragging rites...and thump on the chest...whatever your reason. As divers we should respect the marine environment and merely be observers to the world we have intruded upon. These ops are "sharing...

Off-topic Discussion moved from Diver Missing in the Bahamas thread

You are proud to be among the "elitist" divers on Abernathy's boats who exploit sharks for bragging rights and a photo on their wall? Luring them into a circle of divers who I see pushing away curious sharks via a whack on the nose with their cameras and flash bulbs exploding underwater like...

    Diver missing in the Bahamas

Wow. Considering the circumstances that generated this thread the individual front and center might just disagree. This is in incredibly poor taste imo. (I'll wait for all of the- he went well aware of the risks, blah blah posts) Regarding the Groh incident, I read several places where...

    Diver missing in the Bahamas

If his camera has been found, maybe it will reveal something? Also, total speculation, but as someone said the sharks grab cameras and such and drag them around like dog leashes.... maybe he was far enough away from the group (for photo op maybe?) and a shark came from behind him-grabbed onto...

    contacts vs prescription goggles

I have a prescription mask and I have no issues with it. I take rx sunglasses and put them in the carrying case for the mask when I am using the mask and during surface intervals i put the mask in the bucket and wear my sunglasses. I do not wear contacts so it was not an option for me...

    End of the season

End of season for me too even though I am in Florida. When the humidity goes and the temps are low 80's, If I am in the wind, (on beach or on a boat) and definately If I am wet, I get c-o-l-d. All "season" long I am in a 3.5mil and in late April -May I wear a shortie over that. Ocean temp...

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

Maybe the popularity of these threads is, indeed, due to figuring out, at least trying to, what happened and applying that in any future dives you may do. However, may I also suggest that grasping for a reason, or "she could have done this," "I would have done that" etc. is because, deep...

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

Grateful Diver- thank you for your feedback. My final thoughts on my own point of view regarding this accident are as follows: You understand it is riskier to dive solo. --because it is a potential liability for them as it is a bigger risk to dive solo. " She wasn't poorly trained nor...

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

I do not live my life telling people how to live their lives. In fact, I am very much opposed to it. I believe completely in life your life and do no harm and allow others to do the same. Solo diving IS against the rules. It DOES increase the risk. It is ill-advised and people do it...

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

My PADI instructor mentioned the "you lead I'll follow" hand signal (two fingers) suggestion by PADI but said we are not to do that and explained why it is not a safe way to dive. He said side-by-side is the only way to buddy dive. That is what he taught. So, you are not the only one.

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

"A buddy at her fin" was just an expression. I mean being a buddy in the context of actually being a buddy- not sharing the same ocean. A person is usually the same under water as they are above it. Some people are attentive, others are not. Some people take risks, others do not. In...

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

And if she had a buddy at her fin, no doubt, at that depth, that buddy would be able to: a- get her physically to the surface herself OR b- bolt to the surface and ask the other two divers for assistance The outcome would likely have been different and better in this instance. ----------...

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

That she was a member of SB and respected by and helped moderators, owned her own dive shop in Thailand, etc is a reason to not speculate and discuss this tragedy is offensive to me. Every single incident discussed on this forum is no different from hers. If you have a personal emotional...
