I agree with your assessment of the Blue Hole. I did it last week. The vis was terrible, and the formations were not that great.
We did it on air. On my Shearwater set to medium, I had two minutes of deco. I'm not sure what my back up VT3 showed as I just wear only in case of a failure of the...
For sure weekends are nuts if the weather is good. I am retired and can go any day of the week. Unfortunately, my regular dive buddy is still working. I have on occasion dove it solo during the week.
The below answers why they would not fill my steel tank. It is a 72. However, it does not line up with what I was told. The fill person told me it was to old and could be made of bad alloy.
I love using 72s at the Blue Heron Bridge. In my opinion they are the perfect tank for that dive. They...
I would bet tanks rarely if ever lose the plus by not testing to meet the standard. They lose it because the hydro test facility doesn't take the time to do the calculation. You are not over stressing the material with a +10% fill. There is a very large safely factor build into steel pressure...
It's amazing how much ignorance there is around scuba cylinders. The plus still has a big safety margin build in. There is no issue with filling it to the plus pressure. I have stopped using a particular shop in FL over their ignorant policies.
I am in the Bahamas now. We came in on the 4th. Make sure to have print outs of your test results and your health visa, you will have to show them multiple times. I was told today by the manager of the resort that the requirement for the test was rolled back to 10 days again. I have not verified...
Not modern by any means, but I have a 1953 US Divers RENE Broxton Ave concave bottom steel tank. The concave tanks were used in the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie. There is a bit of a write up on them near the bottom of this page THE CHALKBOARD
Unfortunately there are still to few in the US are accepting the reality. It is so easy to see with Italy's real world example of what can happen right in front of us.
At one time Vintage Double Hose sold a rubber plug. They are currently shut down however. I have one somewhere in my pile of SCUBA stuff. IF (and it's a big IF) I can find it, I will post dimensions.
Thank you for passing on real world experience and observation. We don't want to experience Italy's and Iran's reality. In the last week or so many more Americans have woken up and are understanding the issue. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people who think this is not a big deal and we...
