    Best dive logging software

I've used DiveLog 5.0 for about 3 or 4 years now. The good and the bad: The Good: I liked it mainly because I could save pictures from my dives and also I could customize and print out paper dive log sheets for my dive log book that I take on vacation and stuff. Plus it recently (about a year...

How many of you think solo is OK to do and why?

I've been diving since 2004 and nearly 20% of my dives are solo. I don't know too many divers in the Midwest and there are plenty of spring filled lakes with decent enough visiblity around me to dive after work or on the weekend. In regards to being safe. Let's think about this. The "Buddy"...

    Scuba Diving Magazines?

After 10 years I still appreciate "Dive Training" because it covers everything from novice to advanced to wrecks and oceanic science. The only thing it is probably short on is technical diving but that is a smaller niche anyways. Besides there are mags devoted to that. I also really like...

My wife has a problems with leaking masks...

yes, kinda of expensive. but in cold water it keeps less facial skin exposed. I know some cold water divers up here in Michigan that wont dive without a full face mask anymore. (especially ice diving) but even in the great lakes a 90 ft deep wreck in the summer could be 50 degree water...

    Sharks & monthly period

Actually glidingray, this has been proven false quite a few times in recent studies. Heck, even Myth Busters proved if false by dropping some tuna blood in a shark tank and the sharks went nuts. Then they dropped some human blood and they could care less. Even when it was right next to their...

    "Helpful" male dive buddies

I'm actually dumbfounded that the guys would belittle you like that. I highly doubt male strangers on a dive charter would do that. At least I'm not aware of any. It sounds more like a dive group that knows you, teases you and your husband doesn't do anything about it. Either he doesn't see...

Does Loss of weight reduce buoyancy ??

Obviously there will be two answers, one for fresh water and one for salt. But outside of that. There are two variables that significantly alter the answer. Fat is only one. Muscle is the other. If you "only" lost fat (which doesn't always happen) then due to the density change in your body...

    Shipwrecks & Technology Show October19, 2013

Had a GREAT time here yesterday with my son. The ROV building and shipwreck archaeology were great activities. Not sure if it was marketed effectively because it was really good but the crowd wasn't as large as I would have expected. I'm sure all my wreck diving friends (and their families)...

Ohio Scuba Diver Dies After Gilboa Accident

He also could have went in with a "used" tank. that had little air left. Who jumps in the water without checking their spg gage and taking a regulator hit top side? But I'm sure there are always accidents. they said his tank was empty, if it wasn't turned on I bet that news would have gotten...

    Had a disturbing incident yesterday...

My wife is an ER nurse and this sounds like a TIA, basically a Mimi stroke. I don't understand why but data shows that people nearing a stroke or heart attack condition should not dive as the pressure &/or stress may initiate it. I know it is not conclusive but after seeing the DAN data and...

    Diving alone

Very well said LeadTurn_SD. I agree with your statement "you will know when you are ready" I just knew when I was ready to dive alone and didn't think much of it. I don't have the luxury of always having a buddy when I want to dive. I'm close to clear lakes, so I just go. My surface hobby is...

    DIY Boots, Gloves, Air Dryer

I'm pretty sure you could pick up those fans from Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More! they look like standard computer / server fans. I read of someone who used more of a shop vac type blower and even has flex hoses running up into his hanging wetsuit. He claims all his...

Can you drink while underwater? Like bottle water?

I'm looking for the same solution. I like to think I do drink a lot of water during my dive day however, my throat still gets so sore and burns from the dry tank air. If I could only find a way to shoot some fresh water in my mouth to moisten my throat that would be great. My dive buddy...

    Air fill cost/price

I agree with you 100% Uncle Pug. The LDS closest to me hardly sells equipment anymore. But this was their best winter in 10 years. They have class after class and sell air. Plus they have quite a large used equipment dept. which is also advertised online. If I were an LDS I would Capitalize...

    Weird "dizzyness" while diving?

I have been getting this too my past few dives (not the vision issue though) it is always at mid-late dive during ascent. It really feels weird almost like if I didn't stop and relax, then I would pass out. But in about 10 to 15 seconds it fades away. My buddy tells me he gets the same thing...

PADI: How do I cancel my certification?

He may have been trained to surface if equipment fails, but at dive 25 he's quite young in his confidence (or at least I would be) PLUS he was also taught to NOT DIVE ALONE (I know this is a debatable topic but I believe PADI still teaches it). So a rookie diver is taught to terminate the dive...

Best Hybrid boat for Scuba / General Family fun

I agree with you 100% Reck Diver, Although I thought with the colder wind/water here in Michigan a Cuddy would/could be nice. But your right it will be small on a boat under 23ft. I have also looked at these two brands: Pursuit & Trophy Do you or anyone here have any experience or opinions...

Thanks Nemrod, Do you or anyone else here know of any Makes/Models that would fit this criteria ?

Best Hybrid boat for Scuba / General Family fun

I'm looking for a boat around 20' - 23' that would be good for taking the family out for just recreational fun (ie Tubing, cruising) But would also have enough deck room to use for SCUBA with one or two other buddies. I would prefer a cuddy over a center console. Plus the dead rise should not...

Female Diver Missing on The Yukon, San Diego

Yea flots am, I was wondering that too. Whenever there is a dive accident, i tend to want to know what to learn from it. I'm very sad for the woman and her family. But my safety mind wants to know what went wrong. reporting these types of stats and reasons helps all of us.
