Arm lengths for very wide angle cave-floor pictures?

Get multiple arms. Single arms are too limiting.

Arm lengths for very wide angle cave-floor pictures?

Start with a 12" and 8" on each side. If you're getting too much scatter, then angle your strobes away a bit instead of straight forward. From that far away, you shouldn't have too many hot spots.

    Olympus OM-D E-M5 II opinions?

That's the arrangement I have with the trigger as well. I'll have to give the video button a shot for focusing. Thanks.

    Olympus OM-D E-M5 II opinions?

Chris, Do you have a tray & handles? I have been trying to use back-button focusing like this but it's too much of a reach to most of the buttons for me, so I've just kept it at half-shutter focus. I haven't tried switching it to the video button though.

    Olympus OM-D E-M5 II opinions?

For what it's worth, you can use the Olympus 9-18mm lens behind the flat port. It's not ideal, but it's a good way to get cheaper wide angle. I had that setup for a bit before switching to a Panasonic 7-14mm and a dome.

    Out of Water - Fear!

It's not the smartest idea, but I had my housing on my last camera out of the water, with the door closed and o-ring in, for several years before getting it wet again. No issues. If you are worried about it, buy a new main o-ring and re-grease things. Then do a test dive.

    Olympus OM-D E-M5 II opinions?

I use one in a Nauticam housing. I don't have a ton of complaints with it. Focusing isn't great compared to a DSLR, but it's a fact of life with the micro 4/3rds system. Really, most of the micro 4/3rds stuff will be the same underwater. Just different access to buttons/menu items. One thing to...

    Beginner photographer needs light advice

A better option than either of the two strobes linked is to find a used YS-01 flash. Has TTL like the YS-03, but you can also use it in manual mode. Used they typically go for $250ish. It's a good basic flash that will be easier to grow into and doesn't have the limitations the YS-03 does...

    Diving with a Nikon

Why not buy something like a TG-4 or TG-5? Even with a housing you're looking at $600-700ish. Add a strobe for $300-400 and you will get way better photos than what your GoPro will do.

    12-50mm versus 9-18mm lens for OMD E-5 MK2

Choosing one, get the 12-50. I can't really recommend the 9-18mm. It's not wide enough for wide angle, corners are disappointing, and it's not significantly cheaper than other options. I don't know where you heard about macro with the 9-18mm, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I had...

    YS-D2 firing for no reason

Mine did this as well, only underwater. I was instructed to send it in for warranty work. You might want to contact whoever you bought the strobe from for warranty work.

Focus light for stills - wide or narrow? Any makers?

You want a wide even beam. Sometimes with a spot beam it can show up in your photos. A 1000-2000 lumen video light works well. I use a 2000 lumen iTorch light. 450 lumens really isn't very much at all, but depending on your dive site visibility it might be ok for you. I'm in cold dark low vis...

OMD EM5 mII and Neewer case: 12-50 or mm?

I never said it was $50. I said the 14-42mm is $50. And you can typically find 60mm macros now for $300. That's what I paid for mine.

OMD EM5 mII and Neewer case: 12-50 or mm?

The 60mm is by far the better lens. Go with that one, and then the housing will likely work with the 14-42mm as well. That lens does a decent job for non-macro type subjects (large fish/sharks) and can be found used/refurbished for $50-75 USD.

General questions about video/photo capture during night dives

I have a focus light (essentially not as powerful video light 2k lumens) on top of my camera that I run, as well as a flashlight mounted on the back of my left hand. Most dives here are essentially night dives, so both are on at all times.

Suggestions on a DIY set-up to not lose my DSLR Ikelite rig?

I made a lanyard out of paracord and put a couple bolt snaps on. Connects to my right shoulder D-ring on my BCD. I wouldn't use a wrist strap as it makes it difficult to use your hands even if you drop the camera.

WA Lens (Flat Port) Vs. Kit Lens (Semi-Dome) Vs. Better Camera (Flat Port)

What type of photos are you looking to take? It sounds like you want to go wider. In that case, you should do the 9-18mm. The increase in field of view with a dome port isn't that significant on the 14-42mm

    Balancing a photo rig

Styx make foam floats that are "affordable" compared to buoyancy arms. Depending on your setup, you might need 2 packs. I use 8 full jumbo floats on my rig. But that's with 2 strobes and a focus light in a metal housing.

    Balancing a photo rig

If you want to know exactly, you can fill up a garbage can full of water, and hang the whole rig assembled in it so it's fully submerged. If you can hang it from a scale, you know exactly how negatively buoyant it is. You can then use that information to look for float arms or floats that will...

New to SCUBA...and new to U/W photography

For reference, I had about 5 dives before I did a week trip in Grand Cayman with a GoPro and added another 20 dives. Luckily, with a GoPro there wasn't really anything for me to do other than turn it on and swim around, occasionally pressing one button. I switched to my mirrorless setup after...
